Guides needed, please?

I cannot seem to find a guide to help with using either Mmaestro or Scenarist - my Virtualdub gets 11% done then stops and shuts down.
Can you point me to a page of how to get the sync correct in either of these 2 progs, please? The delay, I have found, is about 260ms but that's as far as I have got. Thanks, V
