Odd avi problem [Archive]

With certain avi's when I open the folder with the avi file explorer crashes, and if I open the avi with any player the program crashes, and from time to time explorer too. I have no idea what to do.

I have win xp pro ... gordian knot codec pack, ffdshow, xvid, divx, ac3filter

The avi is packed with xvid.. don't know if that's even relevant ;)

the quick fix is to disable thumbnail view in explorer.
I don't know if there is another workaround, you would have to use search to read more on this known issue.

ok how the hell do i do that.. and does that help with the player crashing.. i think not...

If you continue with that kind of reponse (clear violation of forum rule #4), I'm sure you won't get much help. Unmei was trying to help but evidentally couldn't remember exactly how to do it and was trying to point you in the right direction.

In response to your question, search google and you will find how to disable the thumbnail view in explorer.
