Hello all, 1st post here ..
I'm authoring DVDs for a while with IfoEdit, and now i'd like to make a small menu (using a bmp image captured with DVD2AVI and a custom button), so that the movie doesnt start automatically when I'm inserting the DVD in my standalone player.
I tried several ways, spend so many nights :
- Maestro always makes a "Media Detection Error" when importing .sup file (all ok when authoring with IfoEdit, so the .sup file is correct)
- seems i got a missing mpg codec for Nerovison.
- don't wanna learn miniDVDs methods for DVDMotion.
- can't install Pinnacle Studio 9 on my PC, doesnt even launch.
I know, I still didnt try Scenarist, but man, why use that professional and expensive tool when I only want to make a static menu with only 1 custom button ?
Seems DVDLab is quite easy, but cant handle multiple audio and subs.
Anybody to help ?

Indeed, my fault : I made .son subs to import in Maestro (doom9 standard method using subrip). I got "media detection error" when importing them into Maestro.

then theres either a syntax error in the son, or your trying to import it into the asset bin rather than the sub timeline.

Auenf you were right. Ok, I made my .son subtitles. Video as Subrip are set to PAL. I set the video timecode to 00:00:00:00 (it originally was 01:00:00:00), then I try to import my .son file. I got "No corresponding subtitles found ! The video asset timecode may not correspond to the timecode specified for the subtitles in the import file". Here is the header of my .son file :
st_format 2
Display_Start non_forced
TV_Type PAL
Tape_Type NON_DROP
Pixel_Area (0 573)
Directory G:\_RiPPiNG\parle\temp\subs
Contrast ( 15 0 15 15 )
SP_NUMBER START END FILE_NAME
Color (0 1 2 3)
Display_Area (000 000 719 573)
0001 00:00:35:08 00:00:38:22 fra00001.bmp
...
Anybody sees whats wrong ?

That whats wrong, now you can add 1 hour to your subtitles file (don't know if subrip
can handle a son file ?) Or reset the timestamp of your m2v with restream.

Thx Msc_alex. I found out a valid method to build correct subtitles : extraction from the DVD with VobSub (which is definitely the BEST tool for subtitles to me), then I'm using VobSub tool SubResync to convert the .sub file to a .son. And now I can import them to Maestro without problem. Furthermore, it's much easier than SubRip (it's all automated, you don't have to enter any parameter).
Then, I build my DVD using excellent Doom9's Maestro method, and easily made the menu and buttons.
Got a slight problem tho ; when menu's launched, I can't switch between the buttons with the remote control unit of my standalone DVD player. This is no problem when testing with PowerDVD, because I can select any button with the mouse.
Hehe, 1 more DVDR to throw away but it takes what it takes :)

Good to hear you got it working, I think you have found the Auto Assign Button on the Advanced tab of your menu, or the Buttons Tab (little more work) by now.

Furthermore, I bet I'll be soon searching for animated menus methods and other weird/professional stuff. Mmm... maybe I'll change my nick soon..don't feel as a noob anymore :p. Thanx again m8.
