Fast Error Skipping in DVDs?

Have you ever heard of this kind ofc trick?
It is one of the most important thread on the ITALIAN d9 forum and they are thinking about a new kind of copy-protection for original stuff.
It seems to work so:
-inserting blanck cells or chapters in some points of the MOVIE;
-writing down cells command in IFOs to tell the stand-alone to jump over them;
-creating kind of scratches or other errors on disk in the point where the blank cell is supposed to be (by calculation AFAIK).
I think we can work around this with the Number of read retries option set to 0 but the question is 'Have you ever heard of this or it's only jokes?'

Well I must admit that I´ve got something strange here on the DVD of "The Missing" RC2 PAL DVD... It seems so that the third cell of the Main Movie is corrupt or has bad sectors... If you want to read an image of the disc, DVD Decrypter hangs... DVD Shrink also gives up with CRC Error.. CloneDVD also stopps... Now I changed to IFO Mode selected the Main Movie and disabled the third Cell... Now I can read the whole movie onto hdd... Can anyone confirm this?

The structure of the IFO from the main movie ist also a bit strange.. the first four cells are marked with "Layer break"... I think there is a new copy protection comming to town.... :angry:

Edit: VTS_14_1.VOB also seems to have something special on it ;) Massive "Pack Header not Found" Errors... Something new is defintiv here!

I wonder if the problems I was having with sector errors on a DVD (which plays fine) might have something to do with this.

How did you know to disable the third cell? Is any of the movie missing?

I've got the same problem with "The Missing" and as well with "Gothika". Both DVDs are published by Columbia and manufactured by SonyDADC. I've tried to rip "The Missing" from two different DVDs on four different drives (Plextor PX-116A, Pioneer DVR-A05, Toshiba SD1802 and Plextor PX-712A all with newest firmwares!) - non of them worked!! And I've tried the same three already named programs: DVDdecrypter 3230, DVDshrink 32015, CloneDVD 2435 + AnyDVD 3921.

Maybe somebody will find a solution for that...

The solution is already available:

Get DVDdecrypter 3.5.0.0 and the problems with SonyDADC should be solved.

BTW.: A big thx to Lightning UK! for the new DVDdecrypter version.

Well, I downloaded and installed 3.5.1 today, and tried to rip a DVD tonight. This DVD plays back fine, either on the computer (same drive), or on a standalone DVD player. But when I try to decrypt it, I get tons of "Sector not found" messages.

Is there really some new kind of copy protection, that floods the program with "Sector not found" messages.

I aborted, changed the settings to "ignore bad sectors", zero retries, etc., and tried again. Very slow, and it seemed to hang at one place, wouldn't go past 85% of the file. The log showed about 1500 errors so far.

How could I get the program to work with a DVD like that?

Just leave the settings alone. I dont understand why everyone keeps changing the read errors thing, it does more harm than good!

The 'pack header not found' messages are to be expected on these protected dvds.
