Hi all.
I am just curious... When using NM4U, at which bitrate do you usually encode the menus of the DVD ? And how many passes do you spend for them ?

@iparout
I usually use 1850 with a 3 pass. This seems to give a good result.

for me it depends on how much smaller the DVD needs to be to fit on DVD-R. i use somewhere between 2000 and 2500 with .vaf + 2-passes, occasionally will use 1800 or 1900 if the original DVD in huge :) (same applies with extras as well)

Usually between 2000-2200, depending of the result. (VBR, vaf + 2-pass).
Of course if the menu is only made of "non-moving videos" (+ some trailers, for example), I will use a bitrate of 500 (or even less) and cut the trailers after.
And if the menu is made of "non-moving videos", but juste the chapter selection is made of videos, then I will ask Numenu to stop before encoding.
And then I modifiy the _DOCCE.txt batch list, so i can use a bitrate of 500 for "non-moving", and 2000-2200 for videos.
You can lower the bitrate even more, if you choose a 1/2 DVD resolution (352xXXX), or/and if you use the parameter "cpu=6" of Mpeg2dec in Avisynth's script, or/and if you use other avisynth filters.
You can reach 800-100 easily. And the result will be decent.

i did 1750 with 5pass and it turned out quite well, good space savings too!

As most of my menus tend to be interlaced and I want to keep it that way, I go for a somewhat higher bitrate around 2500 usually. But I only use numenu on really large menus 300 MB and up, in the other cases i find the gaine of space not really worth the effort.
