I just purchased a new JVC XV-N312S DVD Player it says it plays VCD & SVCD disk on CD-R & CD-RW I tried using Nero 6 Ultra Edition and browsed five MPEG files from my hardrive and made a disk but it would not play in the DVD player. The player states that it plays back MPEG-4 files ? How can you tell what format my MPEG files are in ? How can you tell if there MPEG ver 2 or 4 etc ? I even tried playing the VCD I made in a diffrent DVD player (A Toshiba) and they would not play in it too. so what am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

Sounds like you are pretty unsure about what you are doing, I suggest you go through the guides, they explain the different file formats in detail. But basically in round terms
a VCD is an mpeg1 file 352 x 288 25fps(for Pal)
a SVCD is an Mpeg2 file 480x576 25fps(for Pal)
a DVD is a better quality Mpeg2 file 720x576 25fps(for Pal)

There are variations in these sizes, but these are the most common (still talking Pal).

Dont know much about DVD players that can play Mpeg4 files, ot what file specs would be compatable.

Also read the Nero help files, I suspect you have made a Data CD not a VCD or SVCD.
