I know this is off topic, but I thought I would let everybody know that DVD Shrink is about to release 3.2. This version, supposedly, greatly improves picture quality through further B-frame compression and adaptive error compensation. I have been using DVD Shrink for backups that typically only need small compression (15% or less) and DVD Rebuilder for everything else. I will be very curious to see if this improved transcoding engine can closer match CCE.

[beta link removed]

Sorry guys, upon further consideration, it might be best to wait for a more public beta or full release version. I'm not part of the beta program myself, but rather stumbled upon the link elsewhere. I suppose its important to let the developer of DVD Shrink run his beta program the way he wants to.

According to him, 3.2 will be released next week anyway, so we don't have long to wait.

Thanks Noah!

I must ask, have you tried it? If so, what do you think?

this is more than off topic, its in the wrong section and its already been mention that 3.2 is being done.

maybe searching before posting would be an idea ? especially in the right section.

also i doubt dvdshrink wants the betas given out if the site is password protected. good way to piss him off.

I tried it last night on a disc of South Park season 4, so not the most typical material, but I thought it did a very nice job at about 65%. I enabled all the quality settings (deep analysis, Compress B-pictures more, and Compress P-pictures with adaptive error correction). I don't think the "Compress edges" option is actually working yet, so I haven't tried it. It took 1:48 to run from a mounted .ISO on my 1700+, so its kind of in OPV range.

Subjectively, the result seems better with less pulsing than previous versions. I really need to do some direct comparison with more typical material, though.

Noah, where the hell did you get the password from?

Edit: this question was asked before Noah edited his post and removed the link and password.

Dragongodz, I am aware that this post is severely off topic. My post was not meant to start a discussion, as much as, make people aware of the current activity. Many people stopped following DVD Shrink development when DVDShrink stopped developing; therefore, many people in this group may not be aware of the news unless they had been following the Shrink forum. I do apologize for the post, but I thought someone in this group might be interested.

Beta-testers will then be given personal username/password, and I'll find out who is giving them out.

Noah, how dare you!!!

I'm glad you removed the link and pwd. I can't believe you posted it in the first place.

People can read the front page if they want to know about other software releases.

and you may have missed this from the other thread:Be aware that Doom9 does not allow the discussion of closed alpha/beta programs, which DVDShrink 3.2 entered yesterday.
