Hi!
Ive recently aquired a divx film and i am wanting to burn it to a DVD so i can play it in my home cinema DVD player.
The film:
size: 713,854kb
width 560pix
height 416pix
bit rate 130kbps
audio MPEG layer 3
data rate 132kpbs
video sample size 24bit
compression divx codec
I would imagine i would have to convert it to have VFO's and IFO's so i could simply burn it with nero... any help on this project would be much appreciated... thank you!!:(

You should remember that you need a DiVX certified device i.e the Philips DVP 642 to play divx files
http://www.divx.com/hardware/detail.php?p=7
regular devices can't play divx files,if you have a player that can play divx.
you can just burn your file to a dvd or cd. you don't need to convert anything.
the file also has to be encoded with certified settings to play on a certified player
you can also search the site i believe doom has some guides about that here to

Thanks for the tip but to be honest i was looking for a program that converts divx into dvd-movie data. After scanning the web i came accross 'WinAVI video converter'. -a small and useful program that will convert more-or-less any video format into any other format. I have got on quite well with the trial version (trial version leaves 'winavi winavi winavi' across the middle of the screen when watching your converted film). The only problem is that the converted film comes out quite jolty and the sound skips... Im gonna try re-converting my film and burning it with different settings. If anybody knows any better programs or has any general tips; please let me know about them post a reply:)
cheers

I thougt your question was that you just wanted to burn the file.
for conversion you can use i.e tmpgenc/tmpgenc dvd author or cce(cinema craft encoder)
guide cce (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm)
tmpgenc:

hope this helps:D

Ive tried TMPGEnc and for some reason theres no sound??? I read a guide and found that if there is no sound it is a GOOD thing. All you have to do is convert the sound seperatly (i used virtualdub for this). However i still cant get it to work.
what i did:
=converted audio with virtualdub (divx audio>wav file) -left with wav.
=Converted Divx and new wav audio file together
=Burnt using nero (UDF mode) 2x speed DVD
=played in dvd player -still no audio???? picture quality wicked though.
=Im trying the whole process again today hoping that something was wrong that isnt this time. Its decoding now and in the bottom right of the TMPGEns program conversion box it says 'stream type'. I have 'ES video+audio' clicked.... maybe it should be something else such as 'system video+audio'.. any thoughts???

thats probably it... ES (=elementary streams) will encode the audio in a separte file. using "system video+audio" will mux the two streams automatically.

I have tried buring with 'system sound and video' (you have to select PAL widescreen format on the first TMPGEnc option on start up). The video is good quality and the sound is perfect. The only problems i have had is that every 1-2 seconds the whole picture seems to stick (not very noticably), although it is a bit of an issue... The other problems is that my film is about 120 minutes long but the film stops after playing about 20 minutes...? -It just resets back to the title screen.
Apart from that the film is all good. I will try re-converting it and fiddling with the setting to get better results.

I've been using DVDSanta (http://www.mp3towav.org/dvdSanta/) lately to convert Xivd avi files to DVD format. It does a great job at converting to vob files. I then run the directory through DVDShrink to make sure it all fits on one dvd.

My experience is that saving to WAV directly from VirtualDubMod is not a good idea. I demux the audio from a DivX movie to an MP3 file and then use another program to convert it to WAV. Next I mux the WAV with the video and then I use DVD2SVCD to convert the file to DVD.
Note that DVD audio must be 48000KHz sampling frequency. Take this into consideration when you save audio as WAV.
