View Full Version : Premiere Pro 1.5 and HUFFYUV

Anyone is using HUFFYUV as export codec from Premiere Pro more often? I have simple composition in PAL resolution and anytime I export video from premiere through HUFFYUV (2.1.1 with CCE Patch 0.2.5 or newer 2.2.0), then there are some random artefacts near top and bottom line. They are only in 1-2 frames, flashing randomly and causing virtual dub to close with error, but playback is possible in any player. I tried different machine, with the same result. Strange is that artefact are generated randomly with every exporting of the same clip.
And saving to different lossless works without glitches, but speed of HUFFYUV is better than rest of usable solutions...
Any idea?

i have the 2.2.0 version, and it doesn't take very long for it to crash in Premiere 6.0.2. It might not be too stable of a codec.

Satish just released the updated frameserver that works with PPro. From your post I don't know what your final destination was meant to be, but I assume you are using some type of external encoder. This does not solve your problem with Huffy, but it may allow you to do what you need to do. http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/

I use huffyuv to export my final movie from PPro and then encode it in Vdub (Divx is mi final target). But the exported huffyuv is bad (for the reasons mentioned above by Vlcek) and so my final divx movie is bad too!
then there are some random artefacts near top and bottom line. They are only in 1-2 frames, flashing randomly and causing virtual dub to close with error, but playback is possible in any player
I think this is the main issue, I didn't have these artefacts in huffyuv-exported with PPro1, but they come with PPro1.5, maybe something is changed in Premiere and Huffyuv has to be "upgraded"
Now I'll use the new frameserve, but huffyuv is very powerful and I don't want to lose it!:(
I hope somebody will do something :)

Just for information, it is not related only to HUFFYUV, it is only most vissible there. I tried Alparysoft losless codec and result was very similar, but not showing artifacts as often as with HYFFYUV. The same for CorePNG. Very interesting is FFDSHOW VFW codecs, integrated HUFFYUV is producing the same artifacts as standalone codec, but loseless JPG is working fine - no artefacts. But video encoded in this way frequently and randomly crashes CinemaCraft Encoder SP...
The only "working" solution is standalone ZLIB codec, but even there I have seen this problem once...
I think it is some way related to YUV video, where these artefacts are encoded noticeably more often than in RGB.
And BTW - tried to register on Adobe forums and post this problem there, but cannot find how to post new message there! :scared: Funny

You can use frameserve as an alternative, it works great.
Do you have the problem showned in my picture?
I'll post your message in adobeforums, ;)

Yep, my problem is exactly the same...

The topic is
here (http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?50@221.EJWOcMa0P20.1370031@.3bb513b0)
There is a grey rectangle in the forum page, you have to look at the bottom of it, there is a "add topic";)
But I don't know if adobe forum will help:(

You don't mention the sizes you use. I assume they are all mod 16 (width and height)?

PAL resolution (720x576) and "simple" compossition made from three layers. One with keyed bitmap, another looping video (25 TGA pictures-frames with alpha channel for transparency) and third with scaled down video shown in alpha channel defined window. Nothing very complicated and no heavy effect usage...
This "problem" appears on random frames in other codecs too - tested HUFFYUV, ZLib and Alparysoft where the last two shows errors not too often, but more vissible (noise over half of the frame).
And last observation, it often helps to restart Premiere Pro 1.5
