NuMenu4u Scenarist Version RC1 Build 1 Released

New release now available which contains many bug fixes and enhancements, change log as follows:
• Completely new GUI that I consider to be a big improvement over previous builds
• Support for Avisynth 2.0+ has been removed. The importance of having each cell correct to the frame, requires that Dvd2avidg be used. This is only compatible with Avisynth 2.5+
• Many of the advanced features of CCE are now in optional menus, therefore allowing the more experienced user more control
• ScenaristScan is now used to determine what Scenarist versions are installed
• Special build of Vsrip. This contains bug fixes that would cause the program to not respond correctly > 127 vobid’s. BMP name now includes vobid, cellid and whether a highlight exists for this Bitmap.
• Special build of Vsconv to complement Vsrip. Many thanks to D3s7 for these builds.
• Complete rewrite of NTSC drop frame calculations
• Vsrip is now run only once for every 255 vobid’s (PGC maximum), even though NuMenu4u is a vobid/cellid demux program – major speed advantage.
• Dvddecrypter is now run twice for normal vobid demux (once for video/audio demux, and once to create a subtitle vob), and if necessary a third time for cellid demux.
• By creating a subtitle vob, the analysis for buttons and vob details is now lightening fast.
• DVD2AVI is now run twice (RB version first to obtain log file for field order diagnosis, DG version second to create accurate D2V file)
• Closed Captions properly processed even from one SCC file
• Correction to audio / angle / subpicture button / PGC command
• Option to keep UOPs (if not removed by DvdDecrypter)
• Major rewrite of SST analysis
• Multiple BMPs per cell now supported
• Option to create script only without re-encoding assets
• Option to choose preferred Scenarist version to use if multiple installed
• Different scripts created depending on Scenarist version (NTSC drop frame calculations are handled differently between versions)
• Improved scene detection so there should be no more boundary errors
• Change to the Wait routine so NuMenu4u will run idle when external app being run (eg Dvddecrypter, Scenarist), to improve CPU speed
• Check for > 600 Vobids per VTS. Scenarist imports assets as placeholders if there are more than 600 video data assets in one VTS. In this instance the VTS will not be processed.
• Slight alteration to AVS scripts

Known Issues
• The only one I know of is the annoying bug that Scenarist has. When trying to create a video track that has multiple scenes of length 1s (popular for menus), the button details are not compiled. Until I have found a workaround for this NuMenu4u will continue to do a cellid demux on these vobs.
• Still no known way of doing a slideshow track with multiple cells as one track. Although Scenarist will allow import via script of scenes on compile Scenarist will crash; again a cellid demux is required.
• Cellid demux unfortunately does increase the time required to reauthor.

Assuming there are no problems, then the next stage is to offer format conversion, after a vacation of course.

All comments, suggestions, bugs in this post now please

Great Job Zeul!

ran one of the menus that had issues before and no import/compile errors at all.

One word of wisdom to all others.. If you run into wierd problems up front, uninstall your old version and make sure the directory and reg keys are gone. I had to do this myself but after doing this and reinstalling had no problems

Seconded, great job Zeul.

I ran it on a title I had trouble with ("something's gotta give" which crashed Scenarist on import) and miracle (no, no, lotawork !!), it worked flawlessly.

Thanks

I installed scenarist in "C:\media\sonic\scenarist\scenarist.exe". And everytime I open numenu4u, it popup the window "browse for scenarist".

numenu doesn't save the path here (but all other options are correctly saved).
---

Can you please explain me what the option "threshold (frames)" is, in "encoder" options ? Cell under 40 frames aren't processed ?.
---

nemuenu hasn't finished yet. So I cannot tell if it works better than before ;)

Thanks a lot for your excellent application.

EDIT : numenu4u just finished (it closed, and launched Dif4u).
But in VIDEO_TS, video_ts, vts_01, vts_05 are missing. Those VTS are the one that numenu had to process, but it didn't.
I guess numenu didn't remeber where scenarist was.
(numenu4 u created a script "ScenaristScript26_1.SCP". But my scenarist version is 3.0).

I will re-install scenarist in \program files\ now.

When asked for browse for scenarist are you browsing to the location?

Yes.
I browse to the location (under scenarist 3.0 line), then I click on "save". But it doesn't remeber when I close/restart.

now I reinstalled scenarist under "c:\program files\sonic\scenarist", and numenu find it.
However everytime I launch numenu I see the windows "scanning" (minimized), and then, numenu opens (but it doesn't ask for scenarist path at all).
I don't know if it's normal.
---------

I just finished the menu of "basic" zone 2. And again, numenu close itself and launch DIF4U, whereas it did not launch scenarist. (In video_ts "video_ts.vob/ifo/bup", "vts_01.vob/ifo/bup", "vts_05.vob/ifo/bup" are missing).
But when I import/compile ScenaristScript26_1.SCP in scenarist 3.0, it works correctly. Missing menues are created without any warning.

Do you need a file (a log or something) to understand better what I tried to explain with my awful english ? ;)

bye

P.S.
I have windows XP

How should I updates the ifo/bup that numenu processed after scenarist compile ? (with IFOupdate ? )

Beccause if I use the original ones, the menu doesn't works correctly.

seewen

I just retried "Basic" zone 2.
Same folder, same scenarist version, same options but "move temporary files..." DEactivated, "intergrate with dif4u" DEactivated, "minimize...." activated.

And this time it works perfectly !!
(I don't see the "scanning" windows anymore before numenu opens).
I don't know why it didn't worked before..

You did a great great job. Beccause BASIC with Numenu4u non-scenarist produces a menu without buttons (you have to wait that the menu loops, or use "next chap.").
And with previous numenu4u scenarist I always had error before scenarist process.

Thanks a lot.

@seewen

In the scenarist options button, depending on your choice will determine what action NuMenu4u will take:

1) No Scenarist will produce a script file only
2) Import script will import the script into scenarist only
3) Import, Compile will import and begin the compile
4) Import, Compile, Close will import, compile and then close scenarist

If options 1,2 or 3 are selected manual update of the ifos will be required. This is achieved by running the bat file (in your working directory) called Update_Menu_Ifo.bat after scenarist has compiled. This bat file assumes that you haven't changed the output location for scenarist. This will update the ifo's and move the correct files into the VIDEO_TS folder.

If Import, Compile, Close is selected then after scenarist has finished, the ifos will be updated and then the files moved into the VIDEO_TS folder.

If import, compile, close is selected OR 'copy remaining menu files is checked - in default settings' then the remaining menu files and ifos will be copied into the VIDEO_TS folder.

@All
If the location of scenarist is not in a the programs folder ScenaristScan will ask for the location and then this will be saved as a registry setting. This registry setting is utilised by NuMenu4u and Sceneaid. This should only ever need to be run once. If you later install a more upto date version of scenarist manually running ScenaristScan in either install folder should find the 'new' version.

seewen

In fact the first time I choosed option 4) ( Import, Compile, Close ).
But scenarist wasn't launched, and *.bat has not been created.

But the second time all worked perfect.

I assume something was wrong with the registry setting of my scenarist.exe location. That's why numenu4u was asking everytime where scenarist.exe was.

But now that I have re-installed scenarist in \program files\, Numenu4u works correctly.

Hi I have been trying to use NuMenu4U on the movie "The Butterfly Effect" but haven't been able to do it successfully. I even tried the previous version of NuMenu4U and it still gave the same error. I am using this with DIF4U and everytime it fails, saying it wasn't able to import to Scenarist. When I try to import the Scenarist script manually, it crashes on the first .m2v file and gives me the following error:
Error This Video has different aspect ratio. [C:\Tony\DVD_Backup\BEDC\D_VTS_01_0\NEW_M2V\001.m2v]
Error This Video has different size(width). [C:\Tony\DVD_Backup\BEDC\D_VTS_01_0\NEW_M2V\001.m2v]
Error This Video has different size(height). [C:\Tony\DVD_Backup\BEDC\D_VTS_01_0\NEW_M2V\001.m2v]
Error C:\Tony\DVD_Backup\BEDC\D_VTS_01_0\NEW_M2V\001.m2v
Error : Aspect ratio (0 = forbidden) is wrong.

Error Importing failed

I looked into the ScenaristScript.scp that NuMenu4U created and indeed the Height, Width, and Aspect Ratio values are blank. Is this normal? Thanks for your help I'm stuck!

When I try using Numenu standalone, and select to have scenarist (2.7) do everything (import, compile and close), after importing, scenarist shows the messagebox "import succesful" and then nothing happens.
automate_scenarist starts using up 100% of the cpu power.

Can i manually compile with scenarist, close scenarist down and then kill the automate_scenarist process ? (after killing it, files are moved, and it seems numenu finishes the menuifoupdate) do i need to do something else?

is there a way to solve this?

thx a lot,

the menu re encodes and authors fine, all except for a delay in the button selection :(

is there anyway to manually adjust this, at first its as if there are no buttons

its the basic release if that helps (the first one)standard cut, not dts, movie on 1 disc.

the menu is in the video_ts.vob and also vts01_0.vob

NuMenu4u RC1 doesn't use the avisynth's script I choosed.

Avisynth script "Processing Interlaced"

TomsMoComp(-1,5,1)

(Of course I select "deinterlace script" in options).

Avisynth script creted by NuMenu4u

LoadPlugin("C:\media\NuMenu4U\new.avs\decomb.dll")
FieldDeinterlace()

It's strange beccause:
1) Numenu respect "Header", "Mpeg2switch", "footer". But not "Processing Interlaced"
2) In none of my Avisynth scripts options "FieldDeinterlace(..)" appear... None.

@Zeul,

Would it be possible to post the command line syntax for this utility? My project quit before scenarist was called so I had to compile it manually and hence I did not get a batch file that I can use for .ifo adjustment. Rather than re-incoding the whole menu from scratch I'd appreciate if you could tell me how to use the subject.

Great update man. It fixed the errors that were encountered in the older versions. Congrats.

Once question though :

I can see that there's an option called "DVD Compliant" under video settings in the Encoder tab. I can't recall having seen any similar option in the last NM4U. Should this box be checked or not ? I guess it should be checked, however I just encoded a movie's menus with this option unchecked. Will I be facing any compatibility issues with this movie DVD+R and DVD Players ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

That is the equivalent of the checkbox in the cce options.

@seewen
I have not had that problem myself but will look into it.

@wfn1
test = " -batch_1 -input_H:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO -root_C:\XMEN2_DISC1

-batch_ then the batch folder
-input is the original ifo
-root is the new working dir

Heh, pardon me for being perhaps naive but there's no such checkbox in CCE Options (at least for CCE 2.66 that I'm using). Or did I not understand well what you're saying ?

EDIT : Nevermind, I just found out that this option is only available in CCE 2.67 and it should be turned off... :)

thank you for your reply zeul, i'm still having problems so i'll try to explain what happens the best i can and maybe you can help me.

my main project directory with demuxed and re-encoded assets is:

x:\alien

in that directory i have:

07/14/2004 10:57 PM <DIR> 0
07/14/2004 08:26 PM <DIR> alien Cache
07/14/2004 10:05 PM <DIR> Batch_1
07/13/2004 08:37 PM <DIR> D_VTS_02_0
07/15/2004 07:49 PM <DIR> mux_data
07/15/2004 07:41 PM <DIR> VIDEO_TS
07/15/2004 02:12 AM <DIR> VTS02

.\0 - is my main movie .VOBs compiled in scenarist after they were transcoded

.\batch_1 and .\D_VTS_02_0 are directories created by Numenu4u

.\VIDEO_TS is where DIF4U put all the files from the dvd that are not being transcoded.

.\VTS02 is the directory with demuxed and transoded assets

in .\Batch_1 i have ScenaristScript26_1.SCP and also a:

.\0 that holds the .\VIDEO_TS with the menu I compiled from the above mentioned script

when i run menuifoupdate -batch_1 -input_i:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_0.IFO -root_x:\alien (i: is the mounted image)

from the root of the hard drive x:\ or from the project directory it gives me an "error -53" in a little GUI window.

i'm going to keep trying different things but in case you have any insight into this issue please let me know. thanks!

Hi,

I'm sorry, but I think I hit a bug (which did not seem to occur on the previous release). There are video assets in the video manager (and only there) that are scripted as still images in the Data section of the scenarist script (with silly start and end time and all) and no track at all in the Track section.
I'll send the script and the IFO if you need.

Also, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but menu audio tracks are not imported. The Audio assets folder in Scenarist remains desesperatly empty...

Anybody else is having the same problem ?

When I have NM4U launch from DIF4U it will do everything up till of importing into scenarist. It seems that NM4U is saving the scenarist file as a straight .txt file and not a .scp file. Thus not being able to import into scenarist. Changed the .txt file to a .scp file and will begin the import process but never will import everything and hangs. Don't know if I explained this well enough, but thank you for the help in advance.

Zeul, appretiate all the work you put into this app. Looks very promising and is very helpful tool.

I was having problems getting the new NM4U to launch Scenarist up until today. No matter what I tried, (installing in different locations, uninstalling/reinstalling NM4U, experimenting with options, regcleaner, etc.) NM4U would simply close when it was time to compile.

However, today I upgraded from Scenarist 2.6 to 2.7 in a last ditch effort to solve the problem. As it turns out, that was it. After several tests, the program seems to run flawlessly now. It breezed through the menus on Miracle where the previous version failed.

Maybe there's a compatibility issue with Scenarist 2.6?

At any rate, thanks for the fantastic program! :D

My Setup:

Windows XP Pro SP1
DoItFast4U 1.4
Scenarist 2.7
NuMenu4U RC1
BatchCCEWS 0.9.1.5
ScenAid 0.9.0.27
CCE SP 2.67

I get this error on the Abyss SE menu.

Number: 9
Description: Subscript out of range

EXE Name: NuMenu4U
EXE Path: C:\Program Files\NuMenu4U
EXE Version: Version 1.4.7

Call Stack (lowest level first)

VOB_ID::Item (line 5)

I get it with DIF4U or alone. If I hit ok, it will try to continue to process, but in the end scenarist only makes the VIDEO_TS.IFo and BUP set.

I am using CCE 2.66 with Roba. Scenarist version 2.6.

Any ideas?

I'll try a less complicated menu and see if it is my set up or something with the file.

This is caused by a problem with the settings not being saved correctly. Either remove the registry key or open every page available, reset the settings (GOP is very important set to M=3 N/M=4), and close each page to record the settings. This has been fixed in the new build i am working on.

I am experiencing this problem as well. When the menu appears, you have to wait for a couple seconds before you are able to select any of the options there. After that, everything is fine, however for those 2 seconds it's as if there are no buttons at all. It mau only be 2 seconds of course but it can become quite annoying.

If there's anything I can do to fix that, I would be even happier. ;)

@iparout
The button delay problem has been diagnosed. It is caused by vsrip reporting incorrect timestamps. A fix is in progress. For now, you can manually fix the delay by locating the correct track and moving forward the substart time & highlight starttime by a couple of secs.
