Hello,

I have an .mkv file. I have downloaded the Matroska Pack MPEG4 v1.0.2 and installed it. I also installed Matroska Pack Full v1.0.2.

When I try to play the file using BSPlayer I get the error message "Unknown File Format (RV40)"

When I open up the file in VDUBMOD after it imports the file I get the message:

[!] MKV: The video may have a variable framerate. If so we strongly advise you to use another tool to safely process your file.

[!] Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'ÿÿÿÿ' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video.

I also installed the Core Media Player. It gives the message:
> TCMP's Core can not render the file : "file.mkv"
Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format.

I can play both the audio streams from the file however.

I also have ffdshow installed. All my other video files play fine.

I thought that the Matroska Pack Full v1.0.2 installs the required codecs for playing Matroska files?

What do I need to do to play the file?
Thanks,
Ben.

Don't know about the packs. Never used them. But to view real video in matroska you would need either Real player (http://www.real.com) or the Real alternative pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm)

Thanks, it needed the Real Player codec.

Looks like RealVideo ;)

[!] MKV: The video may have a variable framerate. If so we strongly advise you to use another tool to safely process your file.
RealVideo is generally true Variable FrameRate. VirtualDubMod doesn't support this at all, so it is recommended to not edit the file with it.

[!] Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'ÿÿÿÿ' (unknown)...
Because there is no VFW codec to decode RealVideo on your computer.
Unlike VirtulDub, VirtualDubMod doesn't prevent you from opening/editing video you don't have the codec for ... but you won't see the preview images in the program.
