I'm trying to figure out the best way to split a dvd in linux. Most movies are larger than the 4.4 gigs a dvd+r can hold. I'm not interested in compression.
And I would like to contribute by documenting the procedure for a native linux howto on splitting dvds without using wine.
The idea is to use vobcopy to copy the vob files onto the hardrive and reauthor them for two dvds, a part one and a part two. It sounds simple and perhaps it is. Any and all links and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

nice ambition :)

they key to success for me running on linux was finding other people who already solved a problem ( well some are trivial, when i was using windows i was able to solve quite a-many of em , but now i even seem to have a problem mounting a region code 1 dvd ... though, in fact, i never had one even when using windows :P )

I have found a number of links that explain how to use dvdauthor, but I have not had the time get get a successful split. I was making a backup of a dvd using qdvdauthor to put the first three VOBs onto one cd, but I have been getting error messages. I'll post back when I sort it out.
