div3 problem

Hey guys,
First, i'm pretty sure this has been discusses, so let me know if i'm right... i have a computer which i can't access atm which i use as a movie server etc.. Now i just discovered that for some reason i have a HARD time playing divx, and specifically div3. I don't know really. It seems like after i install divx and xvid, (i tried different versions/dist of xvid), the xvid movies play all the time no problem. divx (3) seems to play ok the first time i play, and then they just stop playing, instead i get the thin bars.. now i have found this:

i'm not sure if its related, but since i can't access that movie server computer until tomorrow, i wondered if you could confirm, or offer help if you think this will NOT solve my problem.

There's probably a problem with on the decoder side if the Xvid/Divx decoder is trying to decode your divx3 file. I say "problem" but the fault's with the Divx3 codec - they're not actually compliant MPEG-4 files (am I right there?)

So, that thread you linked to will probably help you. Either that or download the latest version of Divx3 which includes a patch that makes the Divx filter always play Divx3 files:

Either that or start using ffdshow!
