i tried to make a backup of simpsons season4 dvds.
i set up everything with the latest versions, and when i chose the
dvd directory this message appeared.

too bad.. dvd-rb doesnt like my simpsons dvd.
is there any fix for this? what program should i use to make a backup with high quality?

This is a limitation of the program. Jdobbs plans to support angles/interleaving before leaving beta but at this time it is not supported. There is no workaround that will allow you to keep the multi-angles, but you could try stripping them with a pre-processing program and then using DVD-RB to compress the resulting DVD.

Here's a thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74411) on that process.

The season4 isnt out here yet, but the angles are hopefully just one of the extras. Just rename them to .VOBO or something so RB doesnt see them.. do the process, copy them to the rebuilt VIDEO_TS and rename them back.

I wasn't sure what interleaving meant so I looked it up. Most of you probably know, but if anyone else is curious here is one explanation I found:

In DVD, interleaving is used for seamless multiangle and director's cut features, in which multiplexed streams are subsequently interleaved to allow seamless playback of alternate program material.

DVD-RB looks in the IFO to identify multiple angles and interleaving.

Yes, thats why I wrote "rename them" but was too lazy to write .IFOO and .BUPO ;)

Without knowing I used DVD-RB on the Beauty and the Beast and it transcoded it without any complaint. It worked in my PC but when I tried it on my stand-alone DVD the video freezed. I looked on the forum and find out DVD-RB did not support seamless branching, it seemd jdobbs is getting closer anyway since this version "almost" works on this kind of titles.

If he continues like this I will put him in my shrine next to Linux Torvalds.

If the compression needed is medium to low, you can try instantcopy 8 and still get a good quality backup with everything intact.

If it needs high compression then the only choice right now is the big3 method and manual scenarist authoring (or maybe something new is out that I don't know of ?)

I did great quality backups using ifoedit and tmpgenc+. Keeping all the angles and such and just editing a few points in the ifo so that the episodes advance if you say for example select the third episode from the main menu .

This went great but for some reason doing it this way creates a problem on disc 3 with my sony standalone. Trying to play episodes 4 and 5 just causes the player to advance through the chapters until it reaches episode 6. I can't find why this happens and it plays great on other brands.

jdobbs fixed a similar problem with dvdrb regarding sony standalones. If you could spare the time could some explain how the problem was fixed. Failing that I am just waiting patiently for support in dvdrb hopefully.

sorry if this post is slightly off topic
