View Full Version : 0.55b subtitle removal incorrect

1. DVD-RB Version: 0.55b
2. Encoder being used: CCE SP 2.67.00.23
3. Using eclCCE? Yes
4. DVD: Armageddon + Mummy returns
5. Bug encountered: Subtitle removal incorrect on Armageddon but correct on Mummy returns

I ran both these projects with the same subtitle removal selections and the result of Armageddon is entirely incorrect. I want only english and dutch subtitles to remain. On Armageddon several others are remaining (including english) and dutch is gone.
It looks like all subtitles from subpicture 8 onwards (code IW not recognized in player) are remaining and subtitle 1 (english) is too.
Also all subtitles come in two per language. They have a code W and L behind them (shown in DoItFast4U).

Any ideas?

I have the same problem.

I only want english subtitles, but depending the DVD, I sometimes get all subtitles, or all the subtitles except the english one .... :(

So there are Wide and Letterbox subtitles for each language? Maybe thats causing the problems.

But what you can do guys, is rip the DVD using DVDShrink (select no compression for everything) and select the subs you want, then DO NOT REMOVE any subs in DVD-RB.

Got no idea if your approach would work. I reran the entire project without selecting any subtitle to be removed and the result....... is the same! So some are gone and some aren't........... weird

So apparently the error is not in the selecting algoritme but just in the entire process...... maybe jdobbs can enlighten us?

Reran the project in 1 step CCE no OPV mode and the subtitle problem is gone........
so there is definitely something wrong with subtitle processing in OPV mode......

I think I'll refrain from selecting OPV mode for a while..... ;)

^^^ thats an important point.. if anybody else having sub problems can confirm that. I've never used OPV and never had sub probs aside from the 16:9 that is now fixed... which sorta raises the question, does the OPV switch have a similar bug as the 16:9 bug?

Already had some problems with OPV and subtitles read here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78970) but only 1 user (besides myself) reacted to that......

It looks like most of the times subtitle 1 stays correctly in place. Maybe most people don't have to use subtitles or use the first one and don't notice the problems with the rest?

Anyway it's getting a bit frustrating because OPV has some major advantages.....

let's hope jdobbs can find some similarity between OPV and 16:9 processing....

I doubt it is related to LB convert because that had to do with the IFO files being incorrectly updated when correcting the aspect ratio. OPV doesn't perform any extra steps at rebuild like that.

Yes it is possible to have a different subtitle stream for each aspect ratio. It often is the same, however (for example the same subtitle stream is always used for widescreen and letterbox).

I havent been able to get the subs working correctly with CCE 4 or 5 pass w/rebuilder. I just want to keep the english subs so that is the only box unchecked in the setup. One of the movies I did kept the French and discarded the English, another one kept none at all, and another one the English subs worked on WinDVD when I selected it in the beginning of the movie. Now if I turned them off and turn them back on, it didn't work with WinDVD. As I said, they haven't worked in any of my stand alone players at home. I do use VOB blanker first to blank out all the unwanted extras but I wouldnt see that affecting the subs at all. Any suggestions?

Not only with OPV I get these problems but also with "normal" 3 step CCE.
The subtitles I select to keep are then always (up till now) kept but the others are sometimes all there and sometimes only some of them are gone......
So in the end I decided to leave the subtitle removal options unused all together..... I think there is still a lot to do in that area if you really want this to work..... and I am guessing this would be a nice base for a new feature called: subtitle replacement..... :)

So I'm assuming if you leave all unchecked, it has successfully kept all subs in tact? I haven't tried that yet

How are you guys testing your rebuilds?

I noticed on my system PowerDVD isn't displaying subs beyond the first track (english in this case) when using the DVD on HD mode, but if I create a .iso and mount it with Daemon tools all the subs work fine.

When it first happened I tought perhaps DVD RB stripped them, but the IFO looked fine and DVD Shrink said they were taking up 7-8MB each, so they were there.

WinDVD works either way on my system. Also, I don't have DVD-RB setup to remove any subs and I haven't noticed any being removed, though to be fair I don't remember to check every disc.

99% of the cases I use PowerDVD only. I am sure 1 of the times I noticed subtitle incorrectness on my stand alone player but I think that was with a version before 0.55b.
From your reply I gather that we can't trust the software players?
Should we have a look with DVD Shrink to check if the subtitles are there? Or is there another software player that ís to be trusted.....?
