I have a movie Solaris (directed by Tarkovsky) which I want to convert to DVD. The movie is in 2 parts (2x700Mb), encoded in Divx 3.11 low motion 1153kbps, 25fps, audio 128kbps CB 48KHz (as reported by GSpot). When I authored DVD I noticed that there is a/v sync problems - audio goes behind video. I figured out that the problem is that from the first part of the movie VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod saves audio without 10 seconds silence which is at the very start of the movie. Thus the length of audio file of the first part is 10 seconds shorter than video. From the second part VirtualDub strips about 2 seconds of silence from the beginning. Is it a bug or did I miss something? I would appreciate a lot if someone could help me with this problem.

P.S. Interesting thing also is that BeSweet is also unable to accept this very movie as avi audio source and repports an "Error 21: Error with lame dll!" if try to convert to Lame-Waw, or "Error 74: Bad configuration for AC3enc. Couldn't initialize" if I try to convert audio to AC3.

You should extract the audio from the first part and edit it in your favourite audio editing program (CoolEdit, GoldWave). Just give the audio the missing 10 seconds at the end and thats it.

Do the same for the second part of the video.

I hate joinging movies in avi containers, this usually gives files which are out of sync

Another possible way is to join the two files with any video editing software (like Ulead VideoStudio or Pinnacle). These programs keep audio/video in sync (that was my solution when joining videos of my Sanyo Xacti C1 gave gaps of about 10 seconds).
