View Full Version : Scenarist crashing error

I'm trying to do a backup of Spirited Away and keeping as many features as I possibly could. I followed the multiangle guide using scenarist as closely as I could, but when I get to the compile stage, Scenarist randomly crashes with no error message. All I get is the generic winXP error message:

"Scenarist DVD Authoring Solution has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The log from Scenarist isn't really much help either:

The only thing about my layout that I can think about is that I have a really short PGC2 under the same VTS title that I set in the track editor as a still frame. This PGC was ripped directly from the DVD and no re-encoding was done on it. Because the DVD had multiangles I made sure all streams were encoded and stamped at the proper bitrates (under 7800). One thing I'm not too sure about is whether I need dummy audio streams and/or dummy angle streams for PGC2. Right now all it has is a still image.

Obviously, there is something wrong with the multiangle track. Try to mux it separately: in Track Editor, right-click on the track (SpiritedAway-PGC1-t), select Make VOB, and see what happens. If it still crashes, open the track and go to menu Tools - Verify Track, maybe it'll show something wrong.

I found out what was wrong. I had re-encoded the main video at a lower bitrate and swapped the new files with the old ones in the original folder, so Scenarist didn't update the bitrate. However, when I play the output vob files in PowerDVD the video and audio raplidly flash between the different streams. I'm completely at a loss as to what could be causing this.

This is how multiangle video would look if you simply play the VOB files. You have to play entire output folder as a DVD using the option "Open DVD Files from HDD" in PowerDVD.

By the way, there is a huge thread about backing up this particular DVD:
