The difference between AnyDVD's way to crack CSS and DVDXCOPY's way to crack CSS ?
Which really can keep the same quality of the original CSS-protected DVD(source DVD) ?

Greetings,

I have some confusion about AnyDVD's technique of cracking CSS.
The way AnyDVD runs to crack CSS have some methods.
It's heard that AnyDVD will transform CSS-protected DVDs' movie files(format:MPEG2)
to MPEG4. Then unlock its CSS protection, then tranform to its original movie Format MPEG2.

I doubt that THE PROCESS AnyDVD does to crack CSS MAY LOWER the movie quality of the original CSS-protected DVD.

Although I can't find by my eyes whether or not the movie quality of the copies is lower than the original ,
I'm still afraid that it's inevitable that copies which burn with AnyDVD have the lower movie quality than original CSS-protected DVDs(source DVD).

When mentioning DVDXCOPY's technique of cracking CSS,
it is said that DVDXCOPY takes the "have-not-been-scrambled"(adjective),original movie files out from CSS-protected DVD before CSS scrambles the movie files.
Maybe the way DVDXCOPY cracks CSS does not affect or lower the movie quality of original CSS-protected DVDs.
So that the quality of the copies is the same as the quality of original CSS-protected DVDs.

All I say is correct or not? Thanks a lot. :)

Welcome to the forum.

Somehow you got a wrong idea about the purpose of CSS. It's not related to the movie quality in any way. Think of CSS as a password for a password-protected ZIP, PGP, or other file (.VOB in this case): it cannot possibly affect the contents of the file after decryption, otherwise both the file and the password are useless. De-scrambled movie would be exactly the same regardless of the program used to remove CSS.

Moreover, both programs you mentioned do not exactly crack the CSS; they access DVD legitimately same as DVD player software. If you wish, they don't have to break the lock because they have the key.

Whatever you do with the movie afterwards may decrease it's quality, but that's a completely different process. For example, some people compress the movie keeping it still in MPEG-2 format and then burn a regular DVDR, others compress it even more into MPEG-4 and put onto a CD-R. Such compression always degrades the quality.

In case you're contemplating purchasing of DVDXCopy or already did, well, that would be a mistake. Have a look at my other post in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79223) that mentions free alternatives.

If your going to spend money spend it on InstantCopy 8 and DVDRemake. InstantCopy is the highest quality transcoder if you ask me. Thats all you will need... Well that and DVDRB for the really long or high action movies. But DVDRB is free.

As for spending money, my favorite is Clone DVD. However, no money shall be spent before trying all the freeware programs.

Yea i know.. i was just responding to the persons post ahead of me that was pointing him to DVD Shrink. And I figured if he was willing to spend money on a program than he should get IC8. But seriously if you want something to rip and decrypt the only real choice is DVD Decrypter.
