I oppose S. 2560, Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act of 2004.
I strongly oppose 'The INDUCE Act' because it is broad, over-reaching legislation that threatens to make illegal many products and services that have legal and legitimate uses. Technology used every day by millions of Americans, such as VCRs, filesharing networks, and Apple iPods could be subject to lawsuits.
This bill is a blatant attempt to give the the major record labels and movie companies control over the natural advance of technology. It is also an abdication of Congress' responsibility to create sound public policy that balances the public and private interests in copy-rights and scientific innovation.
The INDUCE Act will create more futile lawsuits, will benefit neither artists nor the public. As with previous technological advances such as radio, television, cassette tapes, VCRs, and the internet, limited regulation has benefited everyone.
I look forward to your response as I am interested to know if you agree that continued innovation in hardware, software, and internet technologies is important to protect.
