I have some stuff that I have burnt to VCD and SVCD in the past that now that I have a DVD burner I would like to put on DVD, I know they will be pretty ordinary quality, what can I use to rip them, sorry in advance if this is obvious, I'm new and ignorant.

You can use Windows Exlorer to "rip" them ... doom9 has a nice guide for the "conversion", btw: http://www.doom9.org/?mpg/svcd2dvdr.htm .

One more thought: I'd probably leave them "as is" (unless the media are starting to become unreadabla/oxidized) - you gain nothing (and actually lose sound quality). Changing the vcds certainly isn't too disturbing.

To rip the *.DAT Files of a VCD you need a programm like VCDEasy or VCDGear to change the MPEG-Header. This is very fast and no conversion. If you have a SVCD you can use the Windows explorer like above.

If you DVD-Player supports such non-standart DVD Formats you can burn your files directly to DVD and have not to do a new conversion which gives you worse quality.

I've used VCDGear to change the headers as per the guide. I am then left with 2 files (from both CD's) that are about 620 meg each. When I try to compine them using TPMGenc it is very fast (30secs or so) and I only get a file of about 3 meg. Any ideas whats wrong. I'm going to takr the advice and leave the discs as they are but this has got me intrigued.
