Hi,
I have been gone for sometime now from this whole thing about ripping dvds and converting them to XviD.

I used to go with GordianKnot before XviD 1.0 and I always got very good results. Now, XviD 1.0 is out and I don't know exactly how to configure the codec to use with gordianknot or other program. The interface has changed a lot and I don't quite understand it.

So what I want is the following(if such things exist):

- Guide to to rip movies with xvid 1.0 and gordianknot or other program but where I can control all the quality options explained in the guide (in other words, I don't want stuff like autogk)
- Guide explaining the interface of xvid 1.0 and all the options to know what everything means and then I can configure it myself for what I want, for instance for any type of video encondig I decide to use xvid, like hmoe movies and stuff

Basically what I want is to understand the ne xvid interface/options and know how to rip dvds with xvid and get the same or better quality I'm used to get with xvid before 1.0

if anyone one could point me to any direction...

Thanks.

Er... Have you read the guides at this site?

Doom9 has some pretty good ones for Xvid 1.0 and Gordianknot 0.28.8 (which is the version that started supporting xvid 1.0).

yes I did read them but I was looking for something more detailed and I don't like the way doom9 makes his guides on the website but they are very good indeed cuz it was with his guides I learn how to encode in xvid in the first place but I don't really like them in some ways...

I remember that there was some guy that used to have on his signature a link to a pdf file with an extensive and detailed guide about encoding xvid in gordianknot for the version before 1.0 but I don't remember who he is nor I don't know if he updated his guide...

Yes, that would be Snowbeach, and his guide to the older XviDs was, indeed, excellent. However, if you had looked at the top of this forum, you might have come across the XviD FAQ (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16935) which would have linked you to Crusty's "Unofficial" FAQ (http://www.vslcatena.nl/~ronald/docs/xvidfaq.html) which will tell you more than you probably want to know about the new XviDs.
