Ok this is probably a very basic question, but here goes.

I am looking to edit a home movie, transfered to DVD. It already has chapters, that the dvd burner put in automatacally. I want to delete them and put my own in. Also, it doesn't have a menu. I want to take the raw video and be able to do those things.

I am guessing the first step would be to use dvd decrypter to put it on the HD. Or i could just copy it over, since it has no dss. from here i am not sure. I am guessing i would want to use some kind of editing software?

What kind?

Also, will i need to change the format of the video to edit it?

Please let me know. not looking for anything really fancy. just menus and chapter points where i want them.

Also. the DVD has some seperate video clips added to the dvd as different titles. I want them as chapters, not seperate titles.

Thank you.

Mike

Go to the Pegasys web site and download the 30 day fully functional trial of DvdAuthor. Once installed you can place the disk in your drive and open it with dvdauthor. It will import the chapters, but you can manually delete them and add chapter points where you want them. It is a lower end program but will allow you a simple menu either still or motion. You can import your own pictures for the menu as long as it comforms to the dvd standard, for ntsc its 720x480. I believe its 720x576 for pal but could be wrong, I'm in ntsc land.

Edit: Also. the DVD has some seperate video clips added to the dvd as different titles. I want them as chapters, not seperate titles.

Sorry stopped reading too soon. To perform this function click on each title one at a time and add it again adding chapters. Since you add them under the same title they appear as one set when you play the dvd and on the menu appear as additional chapters.

Moved to DVD Authoring forum.

Keep in mind that you probably won't be able to set chapter points exactly where you want, since you can place chapters only at I frames. However, unless you want to be extremely precise, it should be OK as it is.
BTW, if you want to set chapters with absolute precision, you have to reencode your video forcing I frames where you want ;)

use DVDDecrypter to demux the video and audio, then use your preferred authoring program to put it together with whatever else you'd like.
