which codec and applicaiton to do internet video conferencing?

Video conferencing is usualy in JPEG or something simmilar. If you find a good one direct IP (no "need to registrer" crap) message me :D

I believe that's largely the ITU's domain. In the business world it seems H.323 is the most popular protocol. There's an open implementation here (http://www.openh323.org/). H.323 uses H.261 and H.263 for video compression and the G.x codecs for audio.

there's no way complex codecs like Sagittaire mentioned are anywhere suited for video conferencing. Video conferencing means ultra low bitrate and more importantly, low cpu usage (think of standalone devices). The audio codecs used for IP telephony might be far from being the best there is, but they can be implemented with very little CPU power. You can't put a 3 GHz CPU in an IP phone (and think of what happens if you call an analogue line, then your gateway has to decompress and recompress the voide, now multiply that by the number of outside line a company has to figure out how much CPU power would be required for such a thing).

well has any tried the Flash Communication Server MX?? i think someone mentioned the flash codec from sorenson as being inefficient but flash is the de facto internet standard for anything "motion" these days
