View Full Version : Bug report: Audio re-encoding forced 1.2.2 b1.

Hi,
There seems to be a bug in handling audio re-encoding in 1.2.2 build 1.
If I have setting on audio tab "Do not convert audio (use source audio)" I still get an conversion made and it is also multiplexed into target mpg by mplex.
Whether this is a reason for it, but I first planned to do an audio conversion, and set values in the Audio tab to "Output mode" = MPEG 5.1 with Audio 1 priority and Bitrate set to English/112. I then checked the box "Do not convert audio (use source audio)", but conversion and multiplexing was made.
Btw, reporting bugs is difficult as: "<dvd2svcd.bug@notrace.dk>:
212.88.77.136 does not like recipient. Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for dvd2svcd.bug@notrace.dk"

Audio was not re-encoded. What you see under audio encoding is only delay adjusting. And multiplexing uses this adjusted ac3 stream. There is no bug.

Why was the file "Encoded_audio_1.ac3" only a fraction of the original size, which is mplexed to the mpg stream ? (File is allready deleted, cannot check actual size).
From logfile:
Executing MPEG51 Encoding. Commandline:
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\MPEG5.1\pub_enc.exe" -l 2 -m s -n d -r 48.0 -b 112 -L -p 3 -e -v 0 "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\Encoded_audio_1.aif" "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\Encoded_audio_1"
MPEG 5.1 encoding of C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\Encoded_audio_1.aif finished.
From logfile:
Executing MPlex. Commandline:
"C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\DVDAuthor\mplex.exe" -f 8 -o "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\MPlex_Muxed_File00.mpg" "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL.mpv" "C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\The Last Samurai-RIP\Encoded_audio_1.ac3"
It seems to me, that is was actually re-encoded with bitrate of 112.
Any ideas, I still might be wrong, but the muxed audio was so small in size, which give me this idead.

yes, it's really strange...
edit the dvd2svcd.ini in your "default output folder"("C:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\"), take a look in " No Audio Conversion= x" and in "Add ResampleAudio= x"!
what are that "x" values(numbers)?

Seems something is wrong... I'll try to reproduce your problem later.
In any case,
- Use a bit rate higher than 256k in 5.1 tracks (in ac3 or mp2, its the same)
- If you want to have a high quality 5.1 track, the best solution is to use the original one, without reencoding. Are you checking the "Do not convert audio" box in audio tab?

Jsoto: Yes, that is the problem, I am trying to use source audio, but it still re-encodes the audio and mplex it to the target.
I am currently making a test, with one-pass encoding, so well see how it turns out.
And yes, I have settings in (dvd.ini)
No Audio Conversion=1
Add ResampleAudio=0

Hi,
To report it mplexed the encoded audio again to mpg and settings in project directory and in main sw directory specify NOT to include encoded audio, but to USE source audio. So there seems to be still a sw bug rather then the user one ;).

Yeah, the bug is there, I can reproduce it, but it is very easy to do a workaround.
Please do the following in Audio tab:
- Uncheck the "Do not convert audio" box
- Unselect MPEG 5.1 in Output mode combo. Select stereo.
- Check again "Do not convert audio" box.
All the "unused" selections are hidden but still there. The bug is that D2S internally does not unselect MPEG 5.1 automatically when "Do not convert audio" is selected.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, it is a bug and it has now been fixed. I hope to send out a new version in the near future, please stay tuned.
