Unwanted ripple effect in CCE 2.67

I'm having a little trouble getting good results in CCE2.67

I'm exporting my PAL project from avid in a QT reference.

I have encoded the video with a set of different setting, including using a bitrate of 8000 and onepass/multipass CBR. My video file is not longer than 10 minutes, so I figure CBR is ok.

The quality seems to be allright when playing on my computer, but once I burn it and play it on my standalone DVD player, all te moving objects seem to have a delay. It looks like a ripple effect, but only on the moving objects, for instance if a hand of a person would move fairly quickly only the arm would be bad quality, not the rest of the picture. I happens especially bad against bright backgrounds.

As I understand, PAL video is allways lower field first, so I set CCE to lower field first (in CCE 2.67 offsetline = 1) but this doesn't seem to help the problem. I also tried using offsetline = 0, no difference. I compiled the DVD using DVDMaestro 2.6, and burned with nero.

Does somebody have an idea?

It may be the CBR.

I used to encode in CBR, but I realized that the first pass (*.vaf) of multipass is somewhat magical.
It looks at the video, so that the *.mpv pass is more aware of what is going on in the picture.

Also, did you crop the picture?
You can't crop a interlaced source without adding a border to the part you cropped. That would produce wavy lines, although I'm not sure that's what you're talking about.

No, i did not crop the picture. I'll try encoding it in VBR instead.

Does it make a difference if I encode with the source files beeing on a external harddrive?

It shouldn't make any different whether it is internal/external.

Tell us how it goes =D

btw if you are going that high of quality, you might be able to get away with one pass VBR

Pal can be and generally is TFF first so the offset flag is not set.
Depends on the source material. I wonder if you have and interlace problem with the ripple effect showing in moving items? Have you confirmed a progressive source? If not run de-interlacing in your script that feeds CCE.

PAL video is generally TFF. It's often BFF when you're working on DV standard materials.

I agree...CBR isn't always the best choice, high action scenes require more bitrate than low action ones...in certain instances you may be giving certain scenes too much bitrate and not enough for others...go with one pass VBR w/a Qfactor of 1

how did you set the Progressive frame flag ? It should be off,
