View Full Version : Menu - incorrect order of buttons

I have consistently had problems with DVD-lab, both the standard and the Pro version. When making menus, there seems to be a bug that results in the wrong button being hi-lighted when accessing the menu for the 1st time. Also, the 'memory' of what button was previously pressed does not work for subsequent navigations back to the menu. Everytime, it goes back to the root menu, rather than remembering what button was pressed in say, a secondary menu.
I don't seem to be the only one with this problem. There have been previous discussions on this problem posted at other forums e.g:
http://www.mmbforums.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6014
Unfortunately, none of the advice offered so far is helpful, as the underlying problem is not adressed -- that is that DVD-lab, when using your own menus, with frames around the objects/links, messes up the order of the buttons when displayed on both a PC and a stand-alone DVD player.
The problem occurs despite the order of the buttons shown in the program, and despite the advice of starting your link objects from top to bottom.
My question is this:
1. Can I manually correct this problem outside of DVD-lab using some other tool? I have IfoEdit, DVDRemakePRO, and PgcEdit.
2. How do I do this? What command needs changing?

I can help you with the first question:

Simplest way to change buttons order (and anything else buttons related "in bulk") with DvdReMake Pro is to export your buttons as .mbl file. It is actually an ascii file which you can open in any text editor. It has a very simple and easy to understand structure - just change it and import buttons back.

It may be not as easy if it is a motion menu. But yes you can do it with VobEdit. Open need vob in VobEdit, go though all the nav-packs in your menu cell and change what you need. You will need to check "buttons" at the bottom to see buttons info.

Thanks Dimad, for your reply.
Yes, using DVDReMake Pro is very useful for fixing the numbering of buttons (by exporting and re-importing the button file).
Unfortunately, DVD-Lab seems to have messed up the DVD files at some deep fundamental level, because even with the buttons being correctly numbered now, the navigation in playback is still messed up. For example, after playing the movie from a chapter, and returning to the menu using the remote (software or standalone player), the wrong buttons are still highlighted.
Using VOBEdit, I can see that the starting button number is 0, for those buttons that are not 'forced' in the menu. My understanding is that '0' ensures that the player remembers what button you had previously accessed. So, returning to the original menu, should ensure that the last accessed button was hi-lighted. This does not happen, or happens inconsistenly with some complex menus authored by DVD-Lab 1.4B2. For example, with a 'switched' menu automatically created by DVD-Lab, some of the chapters return to the menu correctly after playing, while others don't (accessed from the same menu).
Are there any extra commands that can, or need to be edited?
I noticed, that some (but not all) DVDs have a 'set highlighted number' pre-command, though this does not seem to be essential for the player to remember the previous button.

try to using DVD-Lab Pro, which has a new object "counter list", so you can create a menu every time from other objects(movie, menu etc.) it will auto hilight the "next" buttom(not the same, thus more useful).
