View Full Version : Subtitle Sync/Video Length Problem in Maestro

My current project is editing the subtitles in the Jap release of Kill Bill so that they only come on during the Jap speaking parts. I'm working with a copy that's already been CCE encoded, and I've demuxed everything with DIF4U. That being said, when I import my assests into Maestro, I notice that the length reported as 1:52:09:00, but IFO says that the length should be 1:52:16:28. Why the 2 different times? When I import my subs in stl format (copied from the thread on this forum, although I made my own, it turned out to be easier to just use this) they don't sync with the movie. These are subs that were taken directly from the DVD and are accurate, so why won't they match up in Maestro? I've searched the forums for the last 2 days and can't seem to figure this problem out.

Look for the option "Drop Frame" and change it. If you can't, search the forum for these words.

I thought it might be that, but since I wasn't the one who perviously encoded the movie (does that info stay in the stream even after muxing?) I don't know what the settings are. I'm using .stl for my subs and the only info I could find on changing them from drop frame to non-drop frame or reverse is this thread here. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54620&highlight=maestro+sync+audio) I deleted most of the subs out of the file and changed the format of the time (how Maestro detects Non/Drop Frames in subs?) but it didn't solve my problem.
Also, why would Maestro present the video length as being shorter than the IFO?
Thanks!

Yes, the timecodes are saved within MPEG headers in video files (.m2v). A program called Pulldown allows changing it (see download page).
If you're talking about IfoEdit showing different video length than Maestro, I think IfoEdit always uses no-drop frame timecodes, which is why it also shows framerate as 30fps.

Ok, thanks for the info. When I tryed to import the chapter list in Drop Frame format and it said that it didn't match the I-Frames time code of the video. I didn't get that error with the subs, so I guess it doesn't check those well. So I know now that my video is Non-Drop Frame. I also managed to follow one of the suggestions from the thread I posted and converted the subs from 23.976 in to 24fps out in Subtitle Workshop and the subs sync up well now. I tried it before and don't know why it didn't work then..maybe I didn't save it right, who knows hehe.
Will the fact that Maestro reports a different video length that IfoEdit have any effect when it comes time to ifoupdate?
