Decrypting Other Region Disk?

I'm trying to backup a Region 0 DVD with my Sony DRU510A.
I've installed RegionFree+CSS and restarted to enable DMA per it's suggestion. I also added DVD Decrypter to the list of programs and restarted several more times.

DVD Shrink, Instant Copy and DVD Decrypter all tell me that no media is present (i.e. wrong region). DVD Region+CSS Free is open and running minimized. When I initially installed it, it said my default drive will be [J] which is a virtual DVD Drive but I do have "Support all listed DVD DRives" checked.

Any suggestions to read this disk?

Oh yeah, it didn't work like 10 times. THen somehow it read it once but I received a dirty disk error. I popped it out and cleaned it then tried again but it won't read the disk. Disk is in great shape, just had a small smudge which is gone now.

You dont need my program AND DVD Region+CSS free.

Turn it off when using DVD Decrypter or my program wont be able to do its thing!

Thanks, will just use the Regionfree for the foreign films then.
The trouble still is that I can't get RegionFree to show this film up on my drive. Instant Copy, Windows, DVDShrink all still refuse to see the film.

Anyone have another program suggestions?

Disable region free and just try ripping the disc with my program.

If you get an error, tell me what it says.

It always amazes me when the freeware has much better support than the programs people pay for. I just sent a donation because even if DVD Decrypt doesn't end up working for this disk I've used it enough that I should have sent one a while ago...

OK, Regionfree is off. I load up DVD Decrypter (latest version, had it check for updates). It has the Source drive as my Sony DRU-510A which has the movie inside it (movie is The Twins Effect, region 0).

Drive is Region 1, User Changes left : 4, Vendor Resets left: 4.


DVD Decrypter says : Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present).

I eject the disk and put it back in...
Device Not Ready (Logical Unit is in process of becoming ready)

followed by:
Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)

Your drive appears to be having trouble reading it - and so after its initialisation phase (the 'logical unit in process of becoming ready' bit), it's just giving up and deciding there is no disc in the drive.

Do you have another drive you can try reading it in?

I take it you have the latest firmware for your Sony 510 installed?

Latest Firmware is installed...Will throw in an old DVD Drive to check the problem.

Quick questions:
Does Windows see a disk if its the wrong Region?
Would DVD Decrypter circumvent the Region protection?

I had assumed that my real problem was just that the drive was Region 1 and the disk was Region 0 so the drive just made Windows refuse to see the disk.

Yes, windows will read the disc if it possibly can. To just read the data on it, the region doesnt matter. That only comes into play when you try and play it.

DVD Decrypter is designed to deal with a whole host of things... region protection is just one of them.

Anyway, the fact that is a region 0 disc actually means its region free and can be played in ANY region drive.

The problem you have here is that the drive just cant read the disc.

Either that or your drivers and stuff are just so screwed up that weird things are happening - basically if you can put a different disc in the drive and it works, it's not your drivers (so dont worry!)
