@Pamel: to access that page you need IE. That's MS' way to ensure that everybody eventually uses their browser.

I label windows update as something special which has different requirements to normal browsing so I'm not surprised it don't work. Occasionally I'm browsing MSDN with Firfox and didn't accounter any problems. It's probably not easy mor mozilla to keep up with IE's bugs and proprietary crap but since I rarely have problems I assume they are doing quite good. I still don't get it though why gentoo is a workaround for a product key issue, either you get a proper key or you let it be...

Windows Update use an activex software to update windows. Non M$ browser can't run it.

Just subscribe to the security updates newsletter, that way you can download the important security updates before they are available on windows update. Much better than windows update, no?
