@forum,

I've tried 2 DVD :

1. Mummy Returns (Region 1)
---a. steal from extra 50%
---b. use Half-D1 for extra
result is 5.6GB

2. Paycheck (Region 3)
---a. steal from extra 50%
result is 4.7GB

Using CCE SP 2.6+

Anyone have the oversize problem with one-pass VBR ?

Thank you.

One pass VBR is still being developed and the method for predicting size hasn't quite been nailed down. Jdobbs is hard at work :)

As a note if you run it for another pass it will fit the size.

Its not accurate thats for sure, I have had it oversize and undersize on me. For more accuracy increase the % of the sample to be used in predicting the Q value.

Jdobbs has allowed it to go to a max of 25% and atm it defaults to only 1%. Personally I have set it to 10%, which yields rather good results. It has only oversized for me once, like 20mb extra, which I then had to use DVDShrink to downsize (98.8%).

As for changing the setting go to your rebuilder.ini and under [Options] add Q_sample_percentage=10

For more settings refer to http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=74356 and look for the post for 'Hidden Settings'.

Note: Increasing % will increase the time taken to find the Q value.

Try to pinpoint the cause of the problem by doing encodes without any special features (like "steal space" or "half D1") so I can find which is causing it. I usually do a straight encodes -- and I never get oversized. My encodes almost always end up in the 4.1X GB range.

Note -- if you have changed the default for TargetSectors to any value greater than 223600 (the default) you are on your own...

@hobyho,
Add the hidden option Q_sample_percentage=10
reduce the oversize, from 5.7GB to 5.1GB

@jdobbs
Disable the "steal space" and "half-d1" finally hits the target. :)
So the problem is somewhere in the "steal space" or "half-D1" routine :)

PS: Is that save to compress the main move near ~50% ?
save mean the quality still acceptable ?

save mean the quality still acceptable ? Found it. The error was in the logical evaluation of the switches. One of the scenarios was reallocation of space for the movie while never actually removing it from the extras in OPV (using "steal space" and/or "half/half". It has been fixed and will be a part of 0.55.

@jdobbs,

Just can't wait to try the 0.55 :)
