How many characters can there be in a Volume label / Title?

This is probably a very dumb question, but here goes anyways. Once the DVD has been ripped to your HDD (by DVDD) and you are about to burn to a DVD-R or RW, using CloneDVD2 or Nero... how many characters can the Volume Label be? And does it all have to be linked together with no spaces?

Example: Kill Bill: Volume 1

KILL_BILL_VOL1
KILL_BILL1
BILL1

[ppera2]

Simple try will give you answer... And it depends on actual filesystem - UDF, Joliet, ISO, MAC...
