Apple's high definition codec gets the nod of the DVD forum

This news from Mac World says that Apples going to give us some high definition goodies later this summer. What sets this codec apart is it's scalable. It can be used in everything from a 3G phone to HD. (http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?NewsID=8988&Page=1&pagePos=2)

One nice thing about H.264/AVC/MPEG4 Part 10 is that it's vendor and platform independent, and developed by committee. It's not Apple's codec, it is open-standard, and can be used by anyone that wants to pay some fairly reasonable licensing fees, which often are zero. Like NTSC and MPEG1, hopefully the standard will result in good interoperability between different manufacturers.

Of course, some H.264 flavors may be better than others...

have a look at the new a/v codecs forum, there we discussed a whole bunch of already available h.264 codecs (still very basic ones) for some months already
