DivXNetworks has one opening for a part-time video encoder. As part of their role, the successful candidate will be responsible for encoding video in several formats using a variety of tools, as well as designing and executing tests for performance, compression, and quality analysis. The ideal candidate will be fluent with:
DivX Pro 5.x video encoding, including an in-depth understanding of all encoder and decoder features.
Other popular video codecs, with an in-depth understanding of each
AVISynth, including extensive knowledge of the core set of AVISynth plug-ins, as well as other AVS plug-ins
GraphEdit, including knowledge of manually building filtergraphs to mux/demux from various containers (avi, matroska, mov, mp4, ogm, etc.), as well as encoding and decoding via DirectShow.
Characteristics of digital video (such as telecine, interlacing, aspect ratios) and how to create AVS scripts to handle videos with such characteristics
Working with VOB/IFO files, including demuxing audio and converting subtitle streams to popular subtitle formats (.srt, .sub, .ssa)
Working with CBR/ABR/VBR MP3 and using the LAME command-line encoder
Working with AC3 files, including working with AZID on the command-line
Working with VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod
Working with Dr DivX
PSNR as a means of quality testing, including an understanding of logarithmic scales, and an understanding of the distinction between PSNR and perceptual quality for features such as Psychovisual Enhancement, Source pre-processing, etc.
Candidates must be residents of San Diego, California.
