It's high time we heard some good news. And it has not gotten much better than this. Several big tech companies including Intel, Sun Microsystems, Verizon Communications, SBC, Qwest, Gateway and BellSouth have all lined up in support of a proposal by Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va., to rewrite that part of the DMCA. Specifically the part that says though shalt not descramble and thou shall have no other coppies before me.
If this succedes it could put a decent dent in the plans of those like republican senator Orin Hatch. All that would be left is to get what most here would considder a common sense ruling on P2P to make it protected and legal. Though that does not mean condoning true copyright infringement over P2P. Just that the fact people have used P2P to download things will not be used to blackmail them by media comapnies into out of court settlements.
