hi,
i encode videos with xvid 1.0 and the audio part with ogg-vorbis for films respectively lame vbr-mp3 for music-concerts. i join the avi-video-file and audio-file with virtualdobmod 1.5.4 and save this as matroska-file.
i can play all matroska-content on my win me system. but one of my friends has a win xp system. i had installed the latest matroska-pack, the xvid codec, ogg-vorbis and the (fraunhofer crack) mp3 codec v1.263. he can now play the ogg-vorbis films, but the mp3 audio concerts not! the error message of windows media player is the usual "unknown format" message. media player classic says something like "unknown audio format". i have installed the latest matroska splitter. now video plays fine, but without the mp3 audio.
any ideas ??
greetings, Heini011.

Could be missing mp3pro audio decoder ? (radium decoder i think)
Winxp has a basic mp3 decoder not pro

or:
can he play other MP3's? for example if you demux the audiotrack, can he play that?

@BHH:
i encode the mp3 part with lame for maximum quality. no mp3-"pro" content.
@stephanV:
if i open the matroska file (xvid+mp3) within virtualdubmod, then playback is stuttering, but i have video+audio! i had not tried to open mp3 files with media player, but mp3 playback in winamp is ok.
maybe the radium mp3 codec doesn't work with win xp ??
greetings.

Cracked Radium codec is just encoder. It shouldn't cause any playback problems.

that can happen in VDM...
i had not tried to open mp3 files with media player, but mp3 playback in winamp is ok.
try with WMP, i dont know if Winamp uses its own filters, instead of directshow ones...
@all: Radium MP3 is an encoder as well as an decoder, but its an ACM i believe... not a directshow-filter.

well, then it shouldnt be a decoding problem :)
try to remux your file with avimux GUI (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-Zeug/AVIMux%20GUI/index-eng.html) (it can output matroska as well), maybe it went wrong there... then again, why would it work on your pc :confused: (doesnt hurt to try though)

Search his system for "mplayer2.exe" and try to play the file with that. You could also try using Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358&release_id=227046). Windows Media Player 7-10 are incredibly buggy and have all sorts of random playback issues.
You might also try TCMP or Zoom for players with more features.
