On another forum, someone said TMPGEnc could do this, but the steps he gave me just don't match up to what I see. I have TMPGEnc 2.521.58.169 The wizard that starts up suggests that it's just for converting AVIs to MPEG-2 files. There are very few buttons and options... there is MPEG Tools, which is the only thing I've found so far that will demux .mpg files

If this isn't the way to do this, what is?

Some pointers:

1. TMPGEnc can encode MPEG files as well as AVI.

2. When using the wizard, encoding settings are accessed through a button called Other Settings on the screen #3 (Filter Settings).

3. If you want to do things properly, close the wizard and use the Settings button in the bottom right corner. You will also have to load DVD template using the Load button right next to it. There is a bunch of guides and threads about optimizing the encoding settings according to your needs.

4. Either way, once you got to the settings and set the output as 16:9, go to Advanced tab, change Video Arrange Method to Center (Custom size), and set the size to 720x640 (NTSC) or 720x768 (PAL). Encode. Of course, this is only one of the ways to achieve the result.

5. Keep in mind that you're performing a digital zoom of the picture, so don't expect great quality output.
