View Full Version : Encode of Monsters, Inc randomly freezes

I've recently done Monsters, Inc with DVD-RB 0.52. The movie looks great, but at certain points video and audio will totally freeze like it's been paused. If you stop the dvd and press play again to resume from the point at which you stopped, it freezes in the same spot. The only way I've found to get past these sticky points in the dvd is to fast forward when it freezes then it plays normally.

Has anyone else seen this?

I've seen this a lot recently. Like you, all I can do is fast forward through it, and the pause is always at the same spot. Tried several +RWs, various speeds. I get the freezes with both CCE SP 2.67.0.27 and QuEnc.

I've been getting quite a bit of this pausing with Deer Hunter, Pulp Fiction, and The Legend of the Drunken Master. I thought this had some place in the "Still getting stutter" thread, but apparently that's another issue that was already solved. I don't know what's at the source of this, but I've backed up dozens of my other discs with no problems using less recent DVD-RB versions. Bitrate spikes don't seem to be the culprit as they're not near all the pauses/freezes. Also, I haven't checked every freeze but I think it might be related to the concatenation of the dvd segments. Some of the freezes I've seen are at or near the seams. Is that a possible source for problems?

On two of these discs, I had to removed an angle with IfoEdit, but the other was an exact backup.

Just for kicks, I'm considering rebacking-up a disc I've done successfully with an version to see if something's working differently or if its just these movies.

Some other people (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76264&highlight=freeze) ran into this with TMPGEnc DVD Author. Someone got around it by using another authoring program (see last post in linked thread), but using the same mpeg/ac3 files. In their case, it sounds like its not the encoding parameters at all, but how the authoring program works.
