Deconding MP4 file with PAR

Please, someone can explain me the way anamorphic encodes should be properly decoded?
Using 3ivx 4.5.1 filters (Windows Media Player 6) I get the height squeezed, the windows size remain unaltered, so there are the black bands
Shouldn't be the X axis resized according to PAR? (Like in DVDs)
I can't try Nero ShowTime, since the courrent version ignores PAR...

If I encode a 720x576 (16:9 PAL PAR) and decode the MP4 I see a 720x576 window that includes black bands and height resized...
I expected a 1024x576 window...

There's something wrong in my system?

i dunno whether players, like mplayer, videolan, etc.., will handle it too already

well all in all it doesnt really matter whether your picture gets upsized to 1024x576 or resized in 720x576 itself, as you will upsize to the size of your screen anyways when playing in fullscreen, the aspect ratio, the relation between width and height will always be the same

use VLC player or BS player with different aspect ratio settings or overwrite your file data with MPEG-4MOdifier.

So there's something wrong in my PC... it's strange because it's a fresh XP installation and the only codecs I've are Xvix 1.0.1 (Koepi), the 3ivx filter suite and the latest Nero Vision

AR was OK
I was stupid enought to try Nero ShowTime and WMP 6 only...
Media Player Classic and WMP 9 play it correctly

The problem was the Windows Media Player 6.4: 3ivx default installation associates MP4 files with that...

There's something wrong in my system? You can get Nero's ShowTime Player to display anamorphic encodes correctly but only if you replace Nero's Nevideo.ax filter with this 'original' version (http://82.2.167.24/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/Nero_DSFilter_Fix.zip).

But the question needs to be asked. What application did you generate your MP4 encodes?

If it was Recode2 and your source movie contains black mattes (ie: the movies aspect ratio is say, 2.35:1 or 2.40:1) then you'll be out of luck getting the encodes to open up correctly, even with the ShowTime player... for some reason, Nero hasn't quite got the hang of anamorphic encoding yet ;)

With XviD and 3ivX, you should have no problems!

All my encodes were OK (Nero, Avisynth, Xvid, 3ivx, rp, Mpeg4Modifier, Mp4box and 3ivx muxer) except for the strange behaviour of WMP 6.4 (no problems with WMP 9)

Cheers Well, since we covered this already it's weird that you didn't tell the whole story.. :D
Infact the auto-cropping is by default on, in which case the black bars are cropped and AR is quite ok.
So, I'd say "automatically" it does work although slightly imprecisely (if using the old ND decoding filter or 3ivx decoder).
Manually when not choosing any cropping like in your example clip the AR will be wrong. Of course it should work also in manual full res 2.35:1 encode, but "automatically" it should infact work (with old ND decoder or 3ivx player).

3ivx encode plays at 1047x576 (fixed PAR: PAL 16:9?)
Xvid encode plays at 1024x576 (fixed DAR: 16:9?)
Nero is always getting bigger ;)

Well that's nice...

The following 720x432 anamorphic Recode2 Crop Test (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/seemoredigital/Recode2_Crop_Test.zip) encode works perfectly, in all my software players. And in my hardware player.
