2x slower enconding

Hi!
I've installed DivX 5.1.1 and I have noticed the time it takes to encode something to grow twice or even more. Now, I don't encode a lot of stuff, but this is just too obvious difference from previous versions. Anybody noticed this or could anybody hint me what went wrong here, please?

By previous versions, you mean 5.05, or 5.02, not 5.1, I presume?
In that case it's normal that it's slower (notice the quality gain though), but if you had 5.1 you'd see that it could be even slower...Now if your 5.1.1 version is slower than a precedent 5.1 on your system, then you have a problem, but you didnt give us details or version numbers :)

Thanks for your reply :-) I really haven't encoded anything for several months. I think 5.0 was the last version I used for encoding. I really don't need superb quality for my stuff but I am glad to hear the quality has gone up :-) May I ask you-do you think there is huge difference between 1 or 2 pass encoding? I know what it does but I have never noticed any visible difference. I am thinking about cutting the encoding time by going from 2-pass to 1-pass encoding. I think the 1-pass related problems may occur only when there are some abrupt changes in the speed of the picture. If you have a moment to reply-what do you think?

Quite simply, that if you don't see a difference between 1 pass and 2 passes, use 1 pass! :) 2 passes gives better size prediction as well as a much better quality, is what I think, but the back-ups are for you only, so there is no need to suffer for a difference you don't see yourself :)
you could encode a short film or action trailer in 1 pass and 2 passes and see the difference for yourself, only you can determine if the loss of speed is worth the effort.Most people do see a big difference, but as I said, it's ultimately your eyes that will decide anyway :)
