i think i only know half of the answer:
720 - horizontal resolution
480- vertical resolution
but what does the 576 means?

480 is the vertical resolution for NTSC, 576 the vertical resolution for PAL.
what PAL and NTSC are? lots of info on this board with using "search" and as always, www.google.com will help you a lot too. :)

You should read it as "720x(480 or 576)".
