I've been lurking for quite a while, answering most of my question on my own. I've used RB to backup 10 disc and it works flawlessly everytime, Thank You jdobbs!!! Anyway I am hoping someone can tell me how hard it is on the equipment to backup discs, mostly the processor and the hard drive. I started thinking about it and just to be on the safe side I installed an old 40 gig to use as the workhorse for backups (maybe needlessly). I just built this new computer and I'd hate to thrash it too soon.

DVD Rebuilder does not put much strain on the hard drive.

A processor has no moving parts. The only concern would be heat. As long as you have a proper fan and heat sink there is nothing to worry about. Most newer processors and motherboards have sensors and will automatically turn the computer off if it gets too hot.

CPUs and HDs are so cheap these days anyway, unless you have a really high end system. Consider the cost of replacing one of these vs. replacing your DVD collection.

Still, there shouldn't be much to worry about with proper cooling, as mentioned. The only [internal] PC hardware I've ever had fail on me (knock on wood) was a refurb'd motherboard, and I've run my systems fairly hard.

Fry's electronic on west coast has some combo for $60bucks. 2200AMD & motherboard. It would yield about 2x encoding with CCE. You can get 120 GIG harddrive for about $40 now and then. I have done encoding movie for a while and hadn't burn out my cpu yet.

Playing games stresses the CPU and HD about the same as RB plus the extra heat and power drain of the GPU. Only thing to look out for really is heat and that your PC case is ventilated properly. If the back of your PSU feels almost burning hot to the touch you should add a fan or two.
