Hi Guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to install DiVX (and/or Xvid) on a company laptop where I donīt have administrator privileges. (Hence I also donīt have a password to log in as an administrator.)

I know this is not a question directly concerning video encoding, but maybe someone can help anyway.
As this problem only concerns a violation of company policy (and Iīm not planning to do anything illegal). I hope I donīt violate any forum rules.

Help is greatly appreciated,
cheers,
mw

If it's just a matter of wanting to play video on company computers. Then you may want to try something like www.videolan.org. Download that and use it.

Also you could take the divxdec.ax file as well as Media Player Classic and you can make Media Player Classic load divxdec.ax which is the filter for playing DivX Content.

Actually installing the codec is tricky, because it wants access to the registry/c:\winnt\system32/etc and you probably don't have that as a non-administrator.

Hi Nic,

Thanks for the link to vlc. It works perfectly. Do you know if vlc also supports xvid.

By the way: doom9 - and especially its forum - rules. Iīve never been on a page that offers as much information and nowhere else do forum members reply that fast and helpfully. Thumbs up!

cheers,
