Hi,
when i encode my avi to dvd using canopus procoder,
i can't burn my dvd files, because nero says the video file is over 2gb and that's unsupported, how can that be, cause a dvd can handle 4,7 gb??
thnx
??? You must be setting up Nero wrong, when going to burn the files. Make sure it is selected to burn DVDs and not CDs (which is an easy mistake as it's not obvious how to switch in Nero). Also make sure you are burning just a data DVD, if you tell Nero you want to make a DVD-Video Disc then it won't let you put on MPEG files that are bigger than 1Gb.

But if i make a data-dvd,
can i play it in my standalone??
Thnx..
jojo15,
I guess you need to author first. Nero has simple SVCD authoring included, but not DVD authoring. So I suggest you author your MPEG file using IFOEdit, then burn with Nero as DVD-Video.

Thnx,
ill give that a try

Ok,
i don't know how to work with IFOEdit at all,
but then i used TMPGEnc DVD Author..
Now the only problem is the size of my files (.m2v and .wav) is too large (6083 mb) how can i make them smaller?
Thnx
EDIT: Yes, i follow the IFOEdit tut here on doom9, but it was talking about .vobs and stuff, and these are from dvd's right, so i didn't know what to do with it.
You should create a 4 GB file right from the beginning using Procoder for best results.
If you don't have your original source anymore, then you can compress the authored stuff e.g. using DVDShrink, but because you need a higher compression I'd rather recommend DVD-RB instead to get the size down. The latter requires a full encode, but quality will be much better.

Thnx,
but how can i prevent Procoder from creating to large files next time?
Thnx..

I opened DVD-RB but it won't let me select the path where my .m2v and .wav are, and it says there is "no dvd material"...
so how to fix that?

Well - choose the appropriate video bitrate at the "Target" tab...

I recommended to use DVD-RB after having authored your stuff already. If you want to operate on the elementary streams to get the size down, use either ReJig (if desired size larger than 70% of original size) or use your favourite encoder for a full encode at the appropriate bitrate.

How do i know the appropriate bitrate?
With a calculator?
Thnx
EDIT: Ok, got the calculator off the main page, but how many mb's fit on a dvd (it works with mb and i don't know how to "convert" gb's to mb's)
Thnx for all help!
Use 4000 MB, and you should be on the safe side.

So i encoded using "4000 mb" at the bitrate calculator and the file is still 400-500 mb's too large...
how can that be?
I used m2v + wav output and the m2v is 3,57 gb and the wav 1,19..
so i have to use an even lower bitrate??
Thnx

you'd probably want to encode the wav to ac3, which will make the file roughly 1/8th of the PCM size.
i think bb meant for you to use '4000mb' and include the audio size in that 4 gig.

Yeah i thought that too....
I think i got the problem...
I'm using 2_Pass VBR, and the max bitrate won't go under 6000,
so maybe that's why the dvd got too big...
But i'll try the ac3 thing,

You shouldn't use wave output, MP2 output will significantly reduce the size of the audio stream.

I know but that's not an option..
But one question, will the authoring program make the ac3/mp2 stream compatible for dvd?
Thnx
