Test and Enjoy.

Xvid settings for me are all default exept.

Bvop, 250,1.5,0 <==increase b frame sensitivity in credits etc.
GMC
Reaction delay factor 0
VHQ 3
Trellis
Max i-frame interval 250

BTW I live in PAL land.

A couple of things to note.
High quality Matrix IMHO.
Single pass constant quant of 3.5 looks quite pleasing to my eyes. This was judged with no processing.
Higlander endgame (fairly clean source) bitrate = about 800kbps
AI (noisy source) bitrate was about 2100kbps.
Both were done at constant quant 3.5
So as you can see, this matrix is heavly influenced on source quality.

Avsynth scripts look like this.

LumaFilter()
Crop(6,0,-2,-0,align=true)
UnFilter(-5,-5)
Convolution3d(preset="movieHQ")
a=trim(0,2583).BilinearResize(672,372).Undot()
b=trim(2584,199453).BicubicResize(672,372,0,0.75).Undot()
c=trim(199454,209775).blur(0.5,0.5).BilinearResize(672,372).Undot()
a+b+c

For me BicubicResize(sharp) is fine. After all no point using ffdswow if you ain't gonna use it's abilities.

Intra-frame
8 10 11 12 14 14 16 19
10 10 12 13 14 15 18 20
11 12 14 14 16 18 19 20
12 12 14 15 16 20 22 25
13 14 15 16 20 23 27 32
14 15 16 19 23 28 34 41
15 15 17 21 26 33 42 52
16 17 21 24 31 40 52 66

Inter-frame
8 11 11 12 12 13 13 15
11 11 12 12 12 13 14 16
11 12 12 12 13 14 16 17
12 12 12 14 15 17 18 20
12 12 13 15 18 20 22 25
13 13 14 17 20 24 28 32
13 14 16 18 22 28 34 41
15 16 17 20 25 32 41 52

edit: at "constant" quant 3.8 and above, mosquito noise becomes noticable in some areas in some scenes in AI.

just a little question:
why did you write the inter frame matrix the way you did?

Using CQME.

HVS Best is a really good matrix at decreasing bitrate while keeping a fair amount of detail IMO.

However, I am at the process of filling my 400GB of HDD space with archived back-ups.

HVS Best produces mosquito noise.

Fox Home Entertainment, is way to many KBPS.:D

I have some understanding of the theory behind creating a matrix.
Some.;)

So I Modulated between these 2 matrix.

The Intra-frame and Inter-frame were both modulated the same way.

I will continue to tweak this matrix, cause I love tweaking things.
But I've had such wonderfull results with this matrix, I just had to post it.

I hope you all like it as much as I do.
It's better than.......
Ok, maybe it's not that good.

Could it be you meant a matrix set of me? Or am I just paranoid? :D

From the mere look of your matrix set, it seems quite promising to me.

In fact, its characteristics are not too different from SixOfNine-HVS. Yours is a little more flat on low freq's, and a little more steepy on the high freq's.
I suppose it depends on source and aimed compression strength which one turns out better.

A note on your script: I think you placed the undot()'s too late in the filter chain. After your not-too-sharp treatment of the main movie, and especially after your soft processing of intro & credits, there is supposingly no work left to do for undot.
Place the undot before your unfilter(-5,-5).

If AI has considerable noise (I don't know that source), I won't recommend Convolution3d at all. You'll get a noise cutoff effect at the threshold level, which in the end might lead to some unwanted "floating-wall" effects.
For that one, try PeachSmoother or my favorite, PixieDust.

Since inter-matrix has "8" as first coefficient this matrix could have some problems with some kind of standalones.

I've read somewhere that undot was supposed to be placed after resizing. That's why I do it that way.

That script is just a general script that I always use.
Different start and end points for the credits of course.

Uh-oh.

No no, I realize it's me who starts getting paranoid ... and should reserve more time for real life.

But honestly ... compared to the other thing, your matrix can't stand a chance :D

I've read somewhere that undot was supposed to be placed after resizing.
Yes, I remember that comment. But I'd say this is mostly true for lanczos resizing, not so much for bicubic. In particular if you start out with a little smoothing like you do (unfilter).
BTW, instead of bicubic(..,0,0.75) you could give a shot on bicubic(..,-0.2,0.6). Similar sharpness, similar compressability, but less ringing. Try and see which you prefer - tastes are different, usually.

Robocop R4 pal.

Same xvid settings as above.

LumaFilter()
Crop(2,12,-2,-10,align=true)
Undot()
UnFilter(-5,-5)
Convolution3d(preset="movieHQ")
a=trim(0,520).BilinearResize(680,356)
b=trim(521,111597).BicubicResize(680,356,-0.2,0.6)
c=trim(111598,118743).blur(0.5,0.5).BilinearResize(680,356)
a+b+c
