I'd like to create an SVCD containing two mpg's and play it on my standalone player. I tried using vcdgear to create a bin file with both mpg's and then burn the with nero. My standalone player plays the first mpg on the CD, but not the second. Both mpg play if I use a software player on my computer.

Any suggestions?

Merge both MPEGs into one large file with TMPGEnc for example. Then create SVCD out of it.

TMPGEnc won't merge them unless I re-encode them, which I'd prefer not doing. Any other solution?

Hi-

Put them both in the same bin/cue and make a simple menu to choose between them. VCDEasy makes an easy job of it. But even without a menu, they should play one after the other. You must have screwed up somehow when using VCD Gear. Either that or something's screwy with your player.

Here's Doom9's VCDEasy Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/vcdeasy.htm). I usually skip the part about importing chapters and just make them every 5 minutes or so. He doesn't explain how to make a simple menu, though.

Here's a guide for making a simple menu so you can choose which video to play:

And another:

If you know how to create a .jpg with a still from each video, or even a small .mpg with video from each video, using Photoshot, Premiere, Vegas Video, or something else, then you can create a simple menu. Here's a guide for a fairly complex menu:

And my understanding is that with TMPGEnc you can merge them without reencoding. Here's a guide for that:

TMPGEnc wants both parts to be encoded the same. You can have 2 mpg's, but if they're encoded with different parameters, you can't merge them, AFAIK. Guess I should have mentioned that they were not encoded with exactly the same parameters. :)

Hi-

I was still editing when you replied. OK, I understand why you can't merge them now. I added a couple of ways to make a menu to choose between the 2 .mpgs. I don't know why VCDGear didn't work for you. I'm more familiar with VCDEasy, so that's why I pointed to the VCDEasy guides.
