View Full Version : Problem with imported subtitles in Scenarist

I have persistent problems with imported subtitles scripts/pictures created in Maestro SBT or any other applications. First time I import them to track and everything works perfectly, in simulation window, HW preview and even in multiplexing. But next time I load Scenarist, or sometimes it is enough just to change something in project and program suddenly cant find subtitle image files. Like if Scenarist couldn't correctly remember full path to dir, where the images are stored (because it works only with relative paths?? - in build window there is always mentioned ./image.tga without full path). Sometimes it is enough to change path to first subtitle image in track and multiplex engine finds the rest, but sometimes it won't help.

May be there is something wrong in format of generated subtitle scripts, because Maestro SBT puts only name without full path to script. I tried to do this manualy, but then Scenarist refuses subtitle script.

The only solution I found so far is to reimport subtitles every time it happens, but this is not the way I want to work with large projects...

Do you have any idea whats wrong? Or maybe tip to some different program than Maestro SBT, able to generate Sonic Scenarist subtitle scripts/images from more common subtitle formats (srt, sub) correctly?

You should put the full path to the subtitles folder in the header of .sst file under the entry called Directory, something like this:
st_format 2
SubTitle Subtitle_Folder
Display_Start non_forced
TV_Type NTSC
Tape_Type NON_DROP
Pixel_Area (0 477)
Display_Area (0 2 719 479)
Color (9 10 3 4)
Contrast (15 15 15 0)
E2 (255 0 0 ===)
E1 (0 0 255 ===)
PA (0 0 0 ===)
BG (255 255 255 ===)
Directory C:\FOLDER WITH SUBTITLES

######################################################### Image files can't contain a path. Of course, Color and Contrast should be set to you own values. SubTitle entry will be used as a name for the folder in the Data Editor.

By the way, once you've encoded the subpictures, they are stored in Cache subfolder so Scenarist doesn't really need the original files. Maybe you delete the Cache folder after quitting Scenarist, this could cause your problem or at least lead to a waste of time re-encoding subtitles next time you open Scenarist.

Thanks for answer, I found this solution few hours back. Do you have any tips for better sst/image rendering utility than MaestroSBT? The last version is still not able to create Scenarist compatible sst files and I have to manually adjust every header (pixel & display area, directory).

May be we should create new post with different topic, not many users are probably going to check this one with great new SST/image rendering sw tips :D

I make one in subtitle forum...
