1. DVD-RB Version: 0.51c
2. Encoder being used: CCE SP 2.67.00.23
3. Using eclCCE? Yes
4. DVD: Gladiator
5. Bug encountered: Hebrew subtitle remaining

This one was also reported on the big thread. I also created a new thread for this to try to get someone's attention.

Although I checked all but 2 subtitles (English and Dutch) to be removed still the Hebrew subtitle remains.
In the IFO subpicture 10 is classified as being Hebrew.
In my player (PowerDVD) it is not recognized as is subpicture 8 (just the number is displayed when playing). Subpicture 8 is deleted (Norsk).
Subtitle streamcode is IW.

Check in the IFO and see if the two letter code on the disc is actually "he" for hebrew.

Where do I look exactly for that lettercode jdobbs?
When I use IFOEDIT it tells me it is Hebrew.
When using DoItFast4U it tells me the code "IW".

hi Jdobbs,
I too think te correct Hebrew code is 'iw', not 'he'.
my settop recognizes IW as hebrew, when coded with 'he' it just shows the subtitle stream number...
I looked up in the setup instrcutions for the settop, and found out that indeed Hebrew code is 'IW'. Don't know what HE stands for...
also, in other DVDs I have (PAL, with Hebrew language), with ifoedit I can see that commands refer to Hebrew with '69 77' combination, or 26999 decimal value. All stand for 'IW'.

hope this helps a bit...

I just looked it up in the ISO standard (ISO 639). It says hebrew is now "he" and then notes it was formerly "iw" and it was changed in 1989. But obviously there are at least some DVDs using "iw" -- is there anyone out there who can say whether DVD deviates from the ISO standard?

My worry is in changing it to "iw" only to find I break more machines that expected "he"

You can't use them both to identify?

well, I have three machines at home, various brands, oldest is just above 2 years and newest is 4 months old (chinese made junk which plays anything :-); ALL of them expect 'IW' with 4 different DVDs I've tested with Hebrew subs.
Also, Windvd seems to enjoy 'IW' better.
Since I know nothing about the standrds changing on '89, this really puzzles me. Could all the machines around me be avoiding standards?
Really donno.

...just remembered one more thing:
SHRINK was identifying subs as Hebrew ONLY when they were 'IW'...

not them I'm pushing towards any specific direction or something... :)

IFOEDIT is a product developed by DERROW -- while it's an incredible tool, I'm not sure that it is still being updated.
