View Full Version : Lame and Vdub

Please don't jump the conclusions here. I've checked things and installed stuff. It doesn't work ok.. here's what I did:
Get acm's install with the inf file... Well it worked once it won't work again.
What I'm trying to do is save a file muxed into an avi as mp3 (obviously it isn't native mp3...) I go to the stream list click on full processing... and then when choosing lame mp3 it gets limited to a bitrate of 40kbps (awfull windows restriction shite apparently) and the full bitrate without compression. So anyone have any idea's besides download a pre-compiled acm and install it throug the inf file. Because that doesn't work from 3.93 through 3.96... I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working (it did that more often but reinstalling always saved me).
now reinstalling obviously doesn't work anymore. And I've tried multiple version as you can read above. Anyone that have had the same problem and solved it and still know how? Or other solutions to saving an audio stream from an avi utilizing vdub (as an mp3)
Other (maybe) usefull info:
I'm using VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1
The audio stream in the avi file is in Microsoft PCM Format (which I could save as mp3 before)
Thank you to anyone wanting to help me ;)

I want that feature too for ogg, but it seems that everyone is encoding audio with beseweet and muxing it afterwards...

Hey BadGuy!:D It is easy, open the stream list and press the save wav button, use a mp3 encoder to encode the wav file, and you are done...:p
darkpepe, you can also do the same way and encode the audio with the ogg vorbis encoder.
Recommend both of you go to this website www.rarewares.org

it's not what I am looking for because that's just a shitty work-around which I already knew. These aren't 10 minute flicks... takes over an hour to save as wav and then again a long time to save to mp3 But thanks for the reply ;)

the mp3 codec delivered with windows is usally limited to 56 kbps. anyway, this has got nothing to do with LAME; it is not restricted by windows
and the full bitrate without compression
huh? the maximum bitrate of lame is 320 kbps, but thats still compressed...

do like Yong said, or clean your harddrive and reinstall your OS... it sounds messed up.
you can use also use "demux" instead of "save as wav" if your audio is PCM already. should go faster.
@darkpepe: there are no (good) ACMs for Vorbis, thats why you cant use it in VDub. and theres the problem that AVI and vorbis dont like each other.

full bitrate without compression... uuuh yeah that's the 18000kbit something something I'm thinking it's just a wav file basically. I think... It just doesn't make sense
Lame limited to 40kbps I know LAME does not have those windows restrictions. but it's suspicious when the LAME mp3 option only has so little choice.
Reinstalling OS are you mad? for a codec? that's insane imo
PCM is not that great for getting an mp3 out and I often have to deal with AAC which is another encode process.
Like the last post [24th June 2004 12:54] you say,"takes over an hour to save as wav", how big is the avi file? What is that avi video codec you use?
Where is the LAME acm you get? What is your PC spec? If you list them all may be other members can solve your problem. Trying to check the LAME acm is correctly is install on your system:
First, open the Registry editor( Go to the RUN window and type regedit), find the the word "drivers.desc", at the right window sure you will see this word "LameACM.acm" "Lame ACM MP3 Codec"
and "msacm.lameacm" and the value" lameACM.acm" at the Drivers32 window (below the drivers.desc tree-view).
Second, find this two file "LameACM.acm" and "lame_acm.xml" at the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" directory which are the LAME acm must-have components.
If the registry editor lack one of this four value data or the two lame acm component, it is sure the "install.inf" you used have a problem,
and i will teach you how to manually install the LAME acm. If your problem is not as i descript above, the things only you can do is pray other expirienced members to help you, cause i'm a newbies...
Reinstalling OS is not recommend, but it is the fastest solution if your system's REGISTRY DATABSE is corrupted( i guess only).
darkpepe, like the stephanV said, there are no good ACMs for Ogg Vorbis; SURE you CAN use it with Virtualdub, but the AVI will have a problem, because the audio is not syncronous with the video... I already experiment with many audio settings but still can't find the solution yet.
