Backup of Music DVD --> Interlaced Probs! HELP!

I´m trying to make a back-up of my U2 (Best of...Videoclips) DVD.

BUT it´s not really working, since some of the material seems to be interlaced and some of it not?!
How´s that possible?

If I try to decomb it (--> Avisynth PlugIn) it fine, but the interlaced parts have black dots on sharp, rich contrast parts :mad:

If I do not use an avisynth plugIn but try to change CCE settings (uncheck "prgressive frame flag" and check "alternate (scan order)" the interlaced parts don´t play smoothly on my DVD Player (stuttering/"doubled" Pictures).

What kind of Script for Avisynth can I use?

And: is it possible to have "mixed"-material? Interlaced and non-interlaced parts in one video-File??

It seems that the video becomes interlaced, whenever the videoclips seem to be from a video-camera soucre. Like in one clip you have both, some clips a fine --> 100%non interlaced, and some are 100% interlaced.

Arrgh ... am I going crazy..or what? :confused: :eek:

I would put in an image of the "black dots", but I don´t have a webspace to put it in!

Hybrid assets like this aren't actually that uncommon (more common in the NTSC land) and there really is no foolproof way to deal with them.

Generally speaking, if your using DoItFast4u! to demux, it does a fairly decent job of setting the correct values / scripts.

That´s true, but the result is that there are thos black dots.
How can I get rid of those?

either encode the whole thing interlaced or demux by vobid and preview each avs in media player classic to determine which parts are interlaced and which are progressive. then set ya avs scripts accordingly. can be a pain in the ass.
Option 1 seams like the best option.

the problem is, that each clip seems to contain interlaced and non-interlaced material.
Even if I encode the whole thing as interlaced e.g. with the "decomb"-filter in avisyth it shows black dots on the interlaced parts. God knows why!

which song of U2 are you trying to decomb?
is it NTSC or PAL?

I've lots of mostly progressive U2 clips, that have some weird interlacing inside.

but smartdecimate was nearly completely able to remove this.

one clip had a weird framerate, too. I think it was about 22 fps telecined to 25fps...

it´s the whole dvd "u2 - the best of 1990-2000".

What do I have to do with it?
Where can I get smartdecimate and can I use it in avisynth?
Why does U2 have such weird videoclips?
Is that necessary or of any advantage? :confused:

U2 itselves aren't responsible for the tecnicals of their clips.
But their producer is.

Do you have PAL or NTSC?

because some clips are pure PAL and others are (mostly) telecined NTSC.

so some clips of your DVD will be a blendconversion from PAL to NTSC or vice versa.

for PAL2NTSCed clips use rePAL
for NTSC2PALed clips use restore24

It´s a PAL DVD.

Does that mean I have to reencode all the clips *seperately*? :eek:

And are restore24 and rePAL also avis. filters?

Are they really neccessary for reencoding?
My only problem is, that there are those strange black dots, when reencoding deinterlaced materials. The rest is finde, it plays smoothly.
