You could try crash recovering but selecting VCDXBuild in the CD image tab.

Alternatively you could use VCDEasy (or similar) to author the SVCD images yourself using the bbMPEG muxed file.

If all else fails, you can burn the muxed mpeg to SVCD from Nero but you lose the chapters.

Hope this helps
Nick

PS if you try VCDXBuild and it fails, it does produce a logfile. Please post this. I can't remember if VCDImager produces a log but if soo it may be helpful to see it.

This big CD size is not supported in VCDXBuild. And probably it is unsupported in VCDImager.

Are you trying to do a SVCD or a DVD?

well, i am trying to a dvd i guess, since i want to put it on to a dvd but i figured if i just made one large file in svcd format and burned it to a dvd, it would work. I guess not though, huh?

I guess not though, huh? Yes, it works. But you have to select No images on the CD Image tab. You'll end up with two elementary streams, one for audio and one for video, which you can author afterwards. DVD2SVCD will finish his task after the muxing stage. (You'll need an authoring package.)

If you want to save the muxing stage, which will be useless anyway, use DDogg's trick of a dummy bat file to replace RunbbMPEG.exe on the Multiplexer tab.

Of course, you must make sure your player is capable of playing a SVCD frame-sized DVD (very likely AFAIK).

Alright, thanks. Is there an authoring program that is free, or doesnt cost 2000.00 that you could reccomend? Thanks.

For me, you can't beat DVDLab for authoring SVCD streams to DVD.

However, for backing up a DVD can I ask why you are resizing to SVCD framesize anyway?

If you set output to DVD in the Misc tab and set your DVD2SVCD level to Advanced, you can set the output resoltion in the frameserver tab. You cannot use SVCD resolution in DVD mode, but you csn use either 720x480/576 (DVD) or 352x480/576 (CVD) for output resolution with the bundled free authoring software.

Hope this helps

well, thats a very good question. hank you for putting it in such a politically correct fashion, instead of like: What are you friggin stupid???
:D

the thing is, i used to do a ton of dvd2svcd. then i got a dvd burner, and i was using the one clik programs to do those, then i modded my xbox and just streamed all my vids over to it in the xvid format. just lately, i have been running out of hdd space, so i decided to try and use d2s to make a dvd which i had never done before, i just figured, hell, i'll just do what i did with svcd, only set the cd size bigger and burn that. anyway, that obviously isnt the way to go. so, since my post, i got the latest ver of shrink, and all went well. i would like to be able to generate dvds with d2s though, cuz i dont really need or want menus, and i have always liked the quality of d2s so, i will try to be an old dog learning new tricks.
thanks for your replies all who did. peace, falcor

oh, uhm, where in d2s can i change the resolution settings? or is it automatic when i choose dvd output?

If you set your DVD level to Advanced in the Misc tab, a box labelled "Resize to" appears in the Frameserver tab with all the resolution options in it. It also enables anamorphic 16:9 as an output option - very handy for DVD2DVD conversions.

To use the bundled free authoring software, select DVD Author in the CD Image tab.

Cheers

I've found that using SVCD frame size in anamorphic sources (using anamorphic output too) plays great on both 4:3 and 16:9 TVs, so I'm using that lately, along with plain CCE OPV Q=30. I can fit several movies per DVD media.

Since DVD2SVCD does not allow you to use SVCD frame size in DVD output mode, I use SVCD output mode with a "big" CD size: 4350, and qty. 1 in all ranges of the Bitrate tab ;). I don't do the muxing, and get the elementary streams anyway.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for its ease of menus, but probably DVD Lab is a better choice since you can author non-standard things into a DVD. TMPGEnc DVD Author is more restrictive and it requires the use of DVDPatcher (a real PITA).

Anyway, don't be affraid to experiment. It is quite part of the fun of this hobby. ;)

hmmm, so many possibilities . . . alright, well, thanks m8s, i certainly have some data here to digest and play around with. Several movies on a single media???? Hmmm. Interesting. well, off to the encoding mines. peace, falcor

I just got dvd lab. i havent actually used it yet, but was reading some tuts on it, and it looks awesome. i cant wait to take all my old svcds and put them on multi movie dvd+rs with cool menus and all. Thanks for the tip!!:D

NIck, I got dvd lab and i tried putting a few svcds on a compilation, and the program is very feature rich. When I went to compile though, it went through the process and in the compilation log panel, where it tells you what its doing, all went well and then the last two entries are "creating motion menu something or other" and then "aborted". I thought maybe one of my kids accidentally aborted the process and so i tried again, same thing. So then i tried to burn it anyway, and it said the directory (DVD compilation) or whatever the default is, didnt exist. But it does exist, it has vobs and an ifo in a video_ts folder and there is an empty audio_ts folder. Whats up with that? I dont recall telling it to make a motion menu. (I assume this is an animated menu?) Can i just make an iso out of the *_ts folders and then use third party ware to burn? or do I need the contents of the Temp stuff that it uses during compilation?

That's a new one on me, I'm afraid :(
You might want to try bouncing this problem off the guys over in the DVD Authoring forum. See if they can shed any light on it.

Cheers

News to me too, but you might try using ImgTool Classic, it is a simple GUI for makeISOfs. And AFAIK you don't need the temp files, just the output folder with both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS (AUDIO_TS is generally empty, that's OK).

Before burn, you can check the file structure with:
a) IFOEDIT:
Do "Get VTS sectors". No changes should be done
b) DVDshrink
Dvdshrink is a very good checker of VOBs file structure. In the analysis phase it tries to find VOBUs in VOBs using IFO pointers, so VOBU_ADMAP tables are fully checked. Simply "open files" in dvdshrink and wait the analysis phase to finish.
c) A SW player, like PowerDVD
d) A last check can be done by Nero during its reallocation phase if you try to burn a VideoDVD.
